About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
Do not burn papyrus today. It is the day of the coming forth of flame together with Heru from the marshes.

In the midst of all of the business and preparations that many people are making for the various winter holidays celebrated in our countries this month, it can be easy to overlook the important things.

Take time to feed your ka, whether that is to rest, to do something nice for yourself, or to remind yourself that you are loved.

Take time to feed the kau of others, by saying thank you, by offering to help and by being there.

Don't let the frantic pace take control.

Each day make a special effort to offer your gratitude to the gods and goddesses, the spirits and your fellow Creations.

You'll discover a peace amidst all the rush that cannot be bettered.

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
If you see anything today, it will be good.

This week I'm going to be starting a conversation on the Daily Ma'at list about various gods and goddesses. I've done this before, but before I gave everyone an exercise and asked them to discuss their experiences. This time, I'm intending to tell you about mine, and then we can have a conversation around that. I invite you to join me on list if you haven't done so before. There are some new directions for the Daily Ma'at in 2007 and I hope you will enjoy them.

This past weekend, we had about a dozen guests in for the Wesir festival. Beginning with two days of work study, culminating in the Night Vigil and a very nice dinner together, I enjoyed this year's Wesir festival more than many I've had over the years, because the particular group of people who came seemed to understand and agree with me that it is a holy festival but also a festival of great love and warmth, a time to celebrate family with family. It was wonderful to share this past weekend with my family and I hope to see all of you again very soon.

Today the altars are bedecked in bright flowers in preparation for a new round of divination rituals for our newest Remetj in the coming days. The gods seem pleased and the festivities are high as we approach the time of the Eye's return. I hope that whether you celebrate the same holidays I do or others over the next several weeks that they are enjoyable and filled with peace.

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

(Year 14, Pahenutmut 1 - I Peret I)

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

Today's Festival(s):
First Day of the Kemetic Month
First Day of the second Kemetic Season
Nehebkau Festival
Tepy Semdet (Full Moon Festival)
Coronation of Heru, Day 1
Feasts of Tefnut, Menhyt, Nebtu and Heka
Feast of Hethert "to Uaset to cool Her ka"
Saq-Heru and Hethert, Day 2

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to:
Remetj Linda C. in New York

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
Double the offerings and present the gifts of Nehebkau to the gods in Ptah's presence in the shrines of Tanenet of the goddesses and gods, saviors of Ra and His own Shemsu, and the temples of Ptah-Sokar and Sekhmet the Great, Nefertem, Heru-hekenu, Ma'ahes, Bast, the Great Flame, and propitiate the Udjat-eye. It will be good.

On the Day of Nehebkau, ushering in the second season of our Kemetic Calendar, we give special offerings to all spirits: the gods and goddesses, the Netjeri and the blessed Dead. Here at Truth and the Mother the altars were all decked out with new flowers and candles, and food was shared in the name of all our ancestors and all the people. The day of a new season is like a miniature version of Wep Ronpet, Zep Tepi celebrated all over again, and it is a new day and a new beginning for all.

Today also marks Tepy Semdet, so it is a doubly powerful day. May all the gods and goddesses lavish you with blessings and may you be joyful and receptive to Their blessings.

The love comes from the shining shrines, from the spirits and from the sky. Will you feel it, and give it back?

Dua Nehebkau! Dua Heru-sa-Aset! Dua Tefnut! Dua Menhyt! Dua Nebtu! Dua Heka! Dua Hethert! Dua Heru-Behdety! Dua Mut! Dua Min! Nekhtet!

May your coming be peaceful.

Current Decan: 12: Khentet kheryt, "Lower Fountain"
Today's Festival(s):

Procession of Hethert and Her Great Nine, Day 2
Feast of Khnum
Saq-Heru and Hethert, Day 1

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to:
no birthdays today

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
If you see anything today, it will be pleasing to the hearts of the gods and goddesses. Offer to the gods and the assistants of the Great Nine. Make invocation-offerings to the Netjeri, and give food in accordance with Their lists. It is the day of the Great Nine's pleasure.

The Creators and the Two Deities Who symbolize rule over mankind are honored today, along with Their following. As it is also the last day of our Kemetic month we remember all the gods, our personal gods and the gods and spirits of our people and the places we live as we ready for a new month and a new season starting tomorrow.

Our emphasis in the seasons shifts from Inundation, a time to gather your thoughts and get ready for a time of great activity in Peret, the season of planting and, literally, "going forth." Are you ready for Peret? Will you be ready for Peret? What creations will come from you into the world?

As we honor the Creators without, honor the creator within as well. Feed your ka and be well. I love you all very much.

Dua Hethert! Dua Hethert shemsu! Dua Khnum! Dua Heru-Behdety! Nekhtet!

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
(Saturday) Do not eat any meyhet-fish (tilapia) on this day. It is the day of the going forth of the Hat-mehyt fish which is in Djedu. (Sunday) Do not eat or smell any mehyet-fish (or any fish) [while cooking them].

Yesterday, December 1, was World AIDS Day.

Many of you were probably thinking about it yesterday, heard about it in the news or did something to mark the event.

How many of you will think about AIDS and how it affects our world today?

Or tomorrow?

Or next week, or April the 24th or the third Monday in August?

While it is certainly laudable for there to be an official day to remember that AIDS is not over and that there are still people who need our help and our understanding and support, from our fellow Kemetic Orthodox to strangers we've never met all over the world...it's more important to remember this every day, and to do what you can, every day, to the best of your ability.

Begin with your own life: be tested if there is any chance at all you could be affected. Be informed about risks and care. Be informed about the AIDS situation where you live, and do something if you can, even if that's just to make sure you and your partner are healthy and safe from this horrible disease. Because at least in the United States, the fastest-growing cases of AIDS are now among heterosexuals and teens -- not gay men, not drug users, not "those people who aren't me...."

AIDS affects children, even before they are born. It affects families, from children orphaned by parents who have the disease to family members who have to care for a loved one who has fallen ill, to partners of people who are HIV positive and need to keep their illness under control. It affects whole countries, and not just in the Third World.

The battle of AIDS is still being fought, and your help is still needed.

Get involved. Do something. Make a difference.

And remember AIDS on more days than December first.

Dua Wesir! Dua Sokar! Dua Hethert! Dua Hethert shemsu! Dua Nit! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

David Geffen
