About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

(Year 13, Pahenutmut - I Peret 25)

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

God(s) of the Month: Mut and Min
Current Decan: 15: Heri-ib Wia, "One Who is Within the Sacred Boat"

Today's Festival(s):
Establishing the Celestial Cow
Descent of the Dove
Feast of Thanksgiving Offerings Upon the Altar, Day 1
Feast of Heru-Behdety
Feast of Hethert

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Divined Remetj John K. in Indiana; Remetj Laura C. in Australia (Tuesday) and Shemsu Setytra in Germany (today)

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"Do not drink milk today. Establishing the Great Divine Cow in the Presence of Ra's Majesty. Drink and eat honey today."

The festival we've lovingly come to know as "Moo-mas" has arrived, and with it the re-establishment of the cosmic order as Ra ascends into the sky on the back of Nut as Mehet-Weret, the "great flood," the Sky Cow filled with many stars. At the same time we also celebrate a festival related to Aset, the "dove" Who brought life to Wesir's broken body in the form of Their son Heru-sa-Aset. Heru-Behdety and His wife Hethert are also honored today, rounding out our festivals of love and creation and renewal alongside the very great Thanksgiving Festival.

This year, we have many things to give thanks for, from our people and our building to the sharing and caring that we had with each other, marked recently in our charitable drive to help the Houma Reservation in Louisiana. We have witnessed the birth of new children, the joining of new members to the faith and the taking of Shemsu, Shemsu-Ankh, and priesthood vows. We have lived and loved and been happy and sad and together and apart. For it all we give great thanks to our Creator and Creators, the Gods and Goddesses Who are also Netjer in the abstract, the Self-Created One and Many.

May each of you have a wonderful, wonderful weekend and a festival filled with joy.

Dua Nut! Dua Aset! Dua Heru-Behdety! Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

God(s) of the Month: Mut and Min
Current Decan: 15: Heri-ib Wia, "One Who is Within the Sacred Boat"

Today's Festival(s):
Feast of Heryt

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Remetj Matthew P. in Wisconsin

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"If you see anything today, it will be good."

Heryt, the "high ones," the two goddesses associated with the Double Crown of Kemet, Wadjet and Nekhbet, are honored today in the shrines. We give offerings for ancestral rulers and for kingship in general, and give thanks that order is maintained in the world through the gift of Ma'at and the kings who serve it.

After the festivals of Bast Who protects the royal house, it is right to give thanks for the kingship itself, for the connecting piece between this world and the next. We ask the gods and goddesses to keep all of our world's leaders conscious of their responsibilities to their people, and thus maintain the balance of proper leadership and stewardship of our planet and all its beings. May all three of these goddesses hold them to their words and actions and bless politics with the refreshing reminder that it does not exist to serve itself.

Dua Wadjet! Dua Nekhbet! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
Nekhtet! for gifts sent to the Houma Reservation for their holiday festival!
Yinepu blesses the gifts.
Three other photos of the blessing of these gifts are included in the same gallery area of the Daily Ma'at gallery. We are very honored for the last-minute help that our Remetj, Shemsu and their families got together for this effort, whether it was in gifts or money.

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

God(s) of the Month: Mut and Min
Current Decan: Saturday: 14: Serpat khenu, "Lily-pad of resting places"
Sunday: 15: Heri-ib Wia, "One Who is Within the Sacred Boat"

Today's Festival(s):
Saturday: Feast of Nit and Heka, Day 3
Saq-Bast
Sunday: Feast of Nit and Heka, Day 4
Feast of Renenutet at Amun's Temple
Bast Guides the Two Lands
Feast of Shu

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Shemsu Djehutyzebetj in Canada (Saturday); Remetj Leslie H. in California (Sunday)

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
Saturday: ""Do not do anything today. It is the day of the going forth of Bast who protects the Two Lands and cares for Him Who comes in darkness. Beware of traveling on land until Ra sets." Sunday: "Guidance of the Two Lands by Bast, and making of a'abet offerings to the Shemsu of Ra."

The great goddess Bast comes forth this weekend to extend Her protection and blessing over Kemet in its name of Tawy, "the Two Lands." May each of you find Her blessing and love in your life a thousandfold. Give offerings to Her mighty being and be content in Her joy.

Renenutet appears in Amun's temple and creation sees its culmination. It is a time of great joy and a time to celebrate all the things that have come to you in the previous months of this year, both good and bad. Give offerings to thank the gods and goddesses for your blessings and to ask Their help in turning away the challenges for the rest of the Kemetic year as we celebrate the Return of the Eye and the re-establishment of the year's order once again.

I pray in the name of all the deities that you have a wonderful weekend of holiday celebrations, whatever holidays you might personally celebrate at this time of year. May it be a festival to remember.

Dua Nit! Dua Heka! Dua Bast! Dua Renenutet! Dua Amun! Dua Shu! Nekhtet!

Today's Festival(s):
Feast of Nit and Heka, Day 2

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Rootnamed Child Bastemheb (Baheb), son of W'abet Djedetmiwesir and Shemsu-Ankh Khaiptah in Utah

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"The great gods are in heaven on this day and are mixed in with the pestilence of the year. Many deaths are on [this day]. If it (i.e., the bad luck of the day) passes by anyone, he will not recover from the disease which is in him."

On thi second day of Nit and Heka's festival we have a luck-calendar entry describing bad luck associated with death and sickness. Give an extra offering to your ancestors and gods today so that this does not visit your household. I pray in the names of Nit and mighty Heka that everyone is safe.

It is tempting to connect this possible sickness with the stress that many people pile on themselves at this time of year. Make sure to take time for yourself, rest and eat properly, no matter how busy you get with family celebrations or traveling. May you be safe and sound and content in the heart of the gods and in each others' hearts.

Dua Nit! Dua Heka! Nekhtet!

God(s) of the Month: Mut and Min
Current Decan: 14: Serpat khenu, "Lily-pad of resting places"

Today's Festival(s):
The Return of the Distant Goddess (winter solstice)
Procession of Nun
Feast of meshenet for the Shemsu Heru

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Remetj Cléber D. in Brazil (17th); Shemsu Sesbeqyinepu in Ohio (19th); Remetj Paul M. in Colorado and Rootnamed Child Akhuemhebet (Akhbet), daughter of W'abet Basthabi and Remetj Coyote K. in Kansas (20th). Happy belated birthday to all of you!

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"Do not wash yourself with water on this day. It is the day of going forth of the Nun to the place where the gods are. Those who are above and below come into existence; the land is still in darkness."

Rejoice! The Distant Goddess, hearing the pleas of Djehuty and Anhur ("Who brings back the distant," a title of Shu), begins Her return toward Kemet and brings with Her more sunlight and warmth.

Rejoice! Nun goes forth today and creation is renewed!

Rejoice! The meshenet, or blacksmiths, of Heru-wer are traveling the land to equip it for challenges with the tools of power and victory.

It is a day of much rejoicing, and ushers in our season of thanksgiving to the gods, culminating in the Thanksgiving and Celestial Cow festivals next week. We give and receive gifts, we share time with our families and loved ones, and we honor the turning of the season together with the return of Ra's Eye.

May it be a wonderful and blessed holiday for you, bringing you peace and all your wishes come true.

Dua Hethert Iryt Ra! Dua Nun! Dua Heru-wer! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
The Houma pictures should be updated soon, along with a letter from our charitable partners on how the weekend went for the visit of "Indian Santa." Again, I offer my deepest thanks to all who participated in our fundraiser and toy drive. The Day of Answering Every Speech of Sekhmet

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Shemsu-Ankh Nebnetjeruiti in Colorado, Shemsut Ikemwy in Nevada and Wesiremhebet (Wehbet), niece of W'abet Senytmenu in California (on Wednesday); Shemsut Nitimai in Texas (on Thursday). Happy belated birthday to all of you!

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"If you see a dog on this day, do not approach him..."

We answer Sekhmet's questions today.

Sekhmet asks hard questions.

She queries us about appropriateness.
- Have we done the things we say that we will do?
- Do we live our beliefs in the world?
- Are we trustworthy?
- Do we tell the truth?
- What are we doing with our lives?

She can be very harsh to those who are not being honest with themselves. At the same time, Sekhmet, our Great Lady of the Red Garment, is loving and true to those who act appropriately, who walk tall in Ma'at.

Bring yourself before Her, answer Her questions, and be blessed in Her presence.

Dua Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

I'll post the photographs of the gifts and everything that we sent separately on the Udjat Foundation for Children website some time Friday or Saturday, but right now I just want to say thank you all, so deeply, from the bottom of my ka. You did a wonderful thing with this effort. Dua-Netjer for each and every one of you who helped these kids and may the gods reward your generosity richly. Today's Festival(s):
Monday: no festivals
Tuesday: Feast of Hethert

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Shemsu Sashatiyinepu in Ohio and Remetj Faye W. in New Jersey! (both on Monday)

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"If you see anything, it will be good." (Monday) "The gods are joyful with the offerings of Sekhmet today. Establish the paut-cakes and repeat the offerings. It will be pleasant to the hearts of the gods and spirits." (Tuesday)

Special offerings to the dead over the weekend are now followed with the special offerings to the gods and the various spirits (non-ancestral spirits, or nonhuman spirits). Make it a day of special offerings -- appropriate offerings considering the reference to Sekhmet in the calendar -- and rejoice in the great lady Sekhmet and Her blessings in your home.

I am on my way back to Chicago after a brief stay in New York over the weekend, and am really excited to look over all the wonderful gifts and donations that have come in for the Houma reservation so we can get them out first thing Wednesday. Kai-Imakhu Anty tells me there's lots of stuff as well as a good amount of money for us to use to buy more things to put in the care package. Thank you all, from the bottom of my ka, for being part of this special event to help our brothers and sisters in Louisiana. You've done a wonderful thing and I love you for it.

(Saturday) "Do not have sex with any women or anyone (else) in front of the sun which is in your house on this day." (Sunday)

The monthly ancestor-feast happens this weekend along with a special offering for Wesir, "foremost of Eyes" (khenty-irty). He is the Great One who Dwells in the Great Place ("weret," a name for the cemetery at modern-day Luxor more often known as the Valley of the Kings). We give Him offerings as well as Renenutet Who oversees the final vegetable harvest of this season as a form of Aset.

Make it a happy and holy weekend with offerings of every good thing before your gods and your dead. I pray in the name of the Great One that you are blessed with His creativity and abundance.

Sekhmet Places the Flame before the Great Ones
Feast of Heru-wer and Hethert

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: Shemsu Sokarseneb in Massachusetts

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"It is the day of placing the flame before the Great Ones by Sekhmet, Who presides in the Upper Kemetic sanctuary when She was violent in Her actions on account of the coming of Ma'at, Ptah, Djehuty, Hu and Sia, the gods of this day."

The gods are mobilizing to hunt down the angry sun and return it to the land at winter solstice. This is the meaning behind the enigmatic "Sekhmet placing the flame" festival, a day when the sun, the Eye of Ra, reminds us that She doesn't have to come back if She doesn't want to.

It will take all the cajoling, begging and prayers of all the gods to return Her to us in a few days' time. Use today to remember that anger has a lasting and sometimes permanent effect, and to do your best to leave it by Her flame, leave it behind, as you go through your day.

I pray in Sekhmet's name that you learn Her lessons of appropriateness, especially in regards to anger.

Saq Heru-sa-Aset
Saq Sobek
Feast of the Eye of Ra's Drunkenness

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: (no birthdays today)

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"...Do not burn fire in the presence of Ra..."

Today we continue the feast of Coronation as we also honor the feasts of Heru-wer, Hethert, Heru-sa-Aset and Sobek. Another festival in honor of the Eye of Ra, dispenser of cosmic justice, is recognized and probably why the Cairo Calendar suggests not burning candles before Ra today -- adding to the righteous flame of justice is unnecessary and so we are pacifying Sekhmet rather than "firing Her up."

Our fundraiser for the Houma continues. The first box of clothing arrived today, and more has been promised. We'll be packaging everything up early in the week next week to send on to the reservation for their holiday party later in the month, and we thank you for all of your assistance and your support. This is a tremendous thing to do, to help others who have been forgotten.

Our Pahedi wrote me to tell me about his experience helping out with the rebuilding of Mississippi. Dua-Netjer for him and for everyone who is involved with the rebuilding efforts, which are far from complete even if the news and charities seem to have forgotten about them already. We keep everyone who was touched by these disasters in our prayers.

Do something meaningful today. Make it a good day to offer before the mighty gods.

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"[It is a day of] offering before [Nehebkau] in nourishment... make a holiday in your house!"

Again we offer to Nehebkau, this time "making a holiday" in our houses. Make it a special day, a day for joyful offerings before the goddesses and gods.

This is the time of this season, given that so many of us and those around us are celebrating major winter festivals, that we might start to feel a little exhausted or stressed out. Being pulled in all directions and trying to stay happy while doing all the things required of us can sometimes be hard to accomplish. Make a holiday in your house today of rest. Don't push yourself more than is necessary and make a point of gifting yourself with time and pampering. Let this be your new season gift.

Welcome to Peret, the Season of "Growing" or "Going Forth" or "Coming Up"! We have entered the central portion of our Kemetic year and its beginning is marked with the festival of Nehebkau, "He Who harnesses the spirits," a great god and one Who is closely allied with the Akhu. It also begins with the coronation festival of Heru-sa-Aset and the concomitant festival in antiquity to honor the Nisuts and Akhu of the family of Nisut Menpehtyra Ramses (Ramses I), and a number of lesser festivals to gods and goddesses associated with creation, growth and celebrations.

Celebrate today! Make offerings before your gods and Akhu. Be content and receive the blessings of the mighty gods. I pray in all of Their names that you know how special you are and how much you are a part of the creation and the joy of this season.

Dua Nehebkau! Dua Heru-sa-Aset! Dua Tefnut! Dua Menhyt! Dua Nebtu! Dua Heka! Dua Hethert! Dua Akhu Ramessu itiu! Nekhtet!

God(s) of the Month: Sekhmet, Eye of Ra
Current Decan: 12: Khentet-kheryt, "The Lower Fountain"

Today's Festival(s):
Mysteries of Wesir, Day 5

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to: No birthdays today

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
"Do not eat any fish on this day. It is the day of the going forth of Hat-mehit Who is in Djedu, Whose form is a fish."

Last evening we celebrated the Night Vigil of the Mysteries of Wesir, praying for His transition from the land of the living into the land of the dead. Today, we continue the Mysteries with the Feast of Sokar-Wesir, as we give all food offerings to He Who makes things grow, and His wife, Aset, goes forth in Her form of Hat-mehit, the fish of the city of Djedu (Per-banebdjed or Mendes) to bring plenty and abundance to all.

It is a day of sharing and giving.

Our Udjat Foundation for Children is sharing and giving this year, to the Houma Reservation in Louisiana and approximately 2,000 children who will not be having any celebrations this winter unless people help them. (Most of the reservation was wiped out by the two hurricanes that hit it earlier this year, and unlike other areas of Louisiana, because it is Native territory, it does not benefit from federal aid or the same charities that other areas of Louisiana have to take advantage of.)

We are partnering in this effort with Avalon Cares, a charitable organization of non-Christian emergency and service personnel, and they have already started to take things to the Houma. Our own effort to help the Houma wraps up December 10 when we will be sending all of the gifts we have gathered in one big shipment. If you would like to help out, please see the full information located on our Random Acts of Service Forum, or at Avalon Cares' website.

Dua Wesir! Dua Sokar! Dua Ptah! Dua Hat-mehit! Nekhtet!
