About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

Establishing the Celestial Cow
Feast of Thanksgiving Offerings Upon the Altar

After everyone around us finishes their holidays, we have some of our own. These honor Nut, the Sky, as She is established as the caregiver and provider to the ancestors as the Celestial Cow. They also honor the time of year when we give thanks to the gods and to those who love and serve the gods around us in the Feast of Thanksgiving Offerings.

I find that this is one of my most favorite holidays if only because it's the time of year when I can remind people of the real power of gratitude.

When was the last time you told someone thank you for nothing more than being present in your life?

Gratitude is one of the most powerful ways we can use the heka of our words. Consider saying those two magic words to everyone you encounter today, for any reason, no matter how large or how small. As thanks piles up upon the altars, the gods and goddesses are pleased.

I thank Netjer for each and every one of you, for each and every reason under the sun.

Dua Nut! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
"Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude."

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

In the stillness of the snow here, everything is very peaceful. Our neighbors, St. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, are hanging evergreen boughs and red ribbon across the iron gates that guard the entrance to both our churches, as church members help out and neighbors come across the street to ask if they need any more help. The neighborhood where our new temple is located, mostly Latino, is filling with cars and children piling out and into houses already gaily lit with lights and trees, plastic Santas and various other signs of the Christmas season.

I may not celebrate this holiday, but I can smile and appreciate the happy time it is for them, as it is also a happy time for me and for the people of my faith, as we transform this beautiful old building into our permanent quarters. It's a great time to be in this neighborhood, and a great time to be with all of you.

As you celebrate with your friends and family who may be honoring any of the big holidays this week, or as you celebrate the Kemetic holidays with your friends and family here in the faith, I hope you have a wonderful time. I will remember all of you as I watch the snow fall.

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

Feast of Hethert's Return from Bu-gem
Saq-Bast

As we celebrate Hethert's Return, Bast, sometimes called the "northern Hethert" in ancient times, also makes Her appearance.

What a time of joy and happiness this is!

Celebrate with those you love and be content.

I pray in the names of the Golden Eyes of Ra that all you wish for becomes yours.

Dua Hethert! Dua Bast! Nekhtet!

Saq Heru-Shu

The great god Heru, Who is the manifestation of Shu's power upon earth, is in festival today.

He will appear to you within the winds of change, or simply the feel and sound of the breeze on your ears. Listen very carefully to His wind -- it has things to say. It whispers of the power that you already have and are more than entitled to use to better yourself and your world. It talks bluntly about your challenges and the strengths that you have to face them and overcome them. It will push you, gently but firmly, wherever you need to go if you are willing to turn your wings to that wind and fly.

May Heru-Shu, the speckled hawk of heaven Whose wings give sunlight, bring you a breath of fresh air today.

Dua Heru-Shu! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

As I made my way home last evening, I thought about all of you.

I find that I do that rather often, and I wonder if you realize how much each of you are in my thoughts and my prayers, as I wonder how you are and if you are happy in your life.

Write me and let me know! Or, if you are a member (I know not everyone I think of, and not everyone who reads these devotions, is actually a member), stop by Dua tonight and tell me in person!

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Tepy-Semdet (Full Moon Festival)
"Food offerings for He Who Dwells in Weret"

Em hotep from Joliet, Illinois, and the new home of the House of Netjer!

Our move to our new Tawy House building is now complete, and we'll be ready for visitors just as soon as we can get everything unpacked and cleaned. The three-story, 18-room building contains the House of Netjer Kemetic Orthodox Temple as well as the offices of our seminary, charity foundation and temple, and my own personal living space so far, with some expansion to come.

This is a very exciting time to be part of our faith, and it couldn't come at a better time in terms of our Kemetic calendar, when we're celebrating the time of emergence and growing our goals. At this full moon we make very special offerings to Wesir, Who has just completed His mysteries, and Who now, as the "dweller in Weret," takes our offerings and bestows His special blessing.

I pray in Wesir's name that your month is filled with growth and opportunity.

Dua Wesir! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

Feast of Coronation, Day 3
Feast of the Drunkenness of Sekhmet-Hethert

As Wesir's great coronation festival continues, we also send our prayers and love out toward the Wandering Goddess, Sekhmet-Hethert, Who at this time is turning Her eye, the brilliant sun, back toward the northern hemisphere.

We offer to Her intoxicating drinks in order to pacify Her anger, and to encourage Her to return to us soon; and at the winter solstice in just a few days, we will begin to notice Her return in the form of more light and heat each day as She nears.

May the beautiful one, Who is also the lady of terror in red garments, turn Her kindly Eye on us now and bring us peace.

Feast of Coronation, Day 2
"Make a Holiday in Your House"

The Coronation celebration continues with great rejoicing in all houses.

Do something enjoyable to pass the day today, and celebrate in Wesir's name! Nekhtet!

I pray in the name of the newly-crowned god that you have an excellent celebration and remember all your accomplishments so far this year. Each deserves to be congratulated and honored. I am so very proud of all of you!

First Day of the Month
Feast of Coronation, Day 1
Feast of Nehebkau

Wesir is now established not only as the first of all Akhu, foremost of those in the West but also as Nisut of the Akhu in the Unseen World. Nekhtet for His coronation!

Today as we begin a new Kemetic month and a new season, we also honor the great god Nehebkau, "He Who harnesses the spirits." May all your Akhu and all the spirits of the Unseen help you to realize your goals during these next four months, the months of Coming Forth (Peret). Our first season of this year was filled with great accomplishments and great beginnings. What will our second season manifest? (I can't wait to see!)

I pray in the names of Min and Mut, Who guard this month; Wesir Who has become His potential; and Nehebkau Who enables us to reach our unseen allies, that this month is filled with all blessings for each one of you reading these words.

Dua Sokar! Dua Wesir! Dua Nehebkau! Dua Min! Dua Mut! Nekhtet!

Feast of Sokar-Wesir (Day 7)
Mysteries of Wesir: "Raising the Djed"
Day of Offering to the Akhu (ancestors)
House of Ra, House of Heru, House of Wesir (Last Day of the Kemetic Month)

Wesir has been established in the Unseen World. Today we replace His stability and perform hekau to assure our own with the Raising of the Djed Pillar. As I perform this ceremony in our new temple today, I will remember each of you and ask Wesir's blessing upon your goals and plans for this coming year. May you receive excellent results and successes.

Offer to your ancestors today, to gain their help and approval, and also to the great gods of the month as we enter not just another Kemetic month, but another Kemetic season -- the season of Coming Forth, where all your dreams just might come true....

Dua Sokar! Dua Wesir! Dua Akhu! Dua Ra! Dua Heru! Nekhtet!

World AIDS Day
Feast of Sokar-Wesir (Day 6)
Mysteries of Wesir: "Feast of Food Upon the Altar"

We are in a war with a very, very dangerous enemy.

This enemy managed to kill three million innocent people last year -- more than 8,000 people a day -- and more than 28.1 million people have died at this enemy's hands since it started its assault.

An additional 42 million people are marked for death by this enemy in the future, as it increases its territory at a rate of 12,000 more people every single day.

If there was something you could do to stop this enemy, or even to slow it down, would you?

Do you have the time?

I pray in the name of our greatly beloved Wesir that we find a way to stop His kingdom from growing any faster than it is meant to, whether that is our personal commitment not to contract or spread HIV infection, or our work to stop its spread among the innocents in Africa and other parts of the world. May we triumph over the enemy AIDS and end its slaughter for good.
