Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Djehuty sends Bast and Sekhmet to guard the Two Lands Two great goddesses come forth from the Keeper of Wisdom today to protect us and keep us safe. Bast and Sekhmet, Ra's Eyes, mighty lionesses Who guard and guide, preside over this holy day and honor us with Their special presences. Make offerings to all three with prayers for protection and guidance as the Gregorian year makes another turn. I pray that 2003 is filled with all of the blessings and dreams you can imagine. Dua Djehuty! Dua Bast! Dua Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Saq-Djehuty As our festivals come to a close we honor Djehuty, one of the great gods Who encouraged the Golden One to return from Her wanderings (along with Anhur-Shu). Where can wisdom turn you back toward the path you need to be walking? Seek Him out and learn from Him today. Dua Djehuty! Nekhtet!

Establishing the Celestial Cow At this time of year I like to make an announcement and a Dua-Netjer ("thank you," literally "I thank Netjer for you") to all who have enabled our faith to prosper and continue its important work through the secular year, with donations and fundraiser support, and also with offerings of volunteer time and other resources. We are very, very grateful to each and every one of you. Dua-Netjer to a very long list of our benefactors, growing every year (Nekhtet!):

Establishing the Celestial Cow We continue the celebration at Tawy House, one of last year's Thanksgiving Offerings. (What could we do to top that?) Cleaning our shrines from top to bottom and preparing them for the colder months as well as sharing in fellowship are the order of the day. Join us in celebration (and clean your shrines too if you wish). May She of Gold surprise you with an extra special blessing when you least expect one. Dua Hethert! Dua Nut! Dua Ra! Nekhtet!

Establishing the Celestial Cow Celebrate! The anniversary of Hethert, the Great Cow, becoming Nut, the multitudinous sky, is upon us! Greet Her in the starlight and Her Father, Ra, in sunlight, as Day Sky and Night Sky become one! Offer honey and warm drinks to Her, to sweeten Her disposition toward you, and to bring the prosperity of the starry heavens into your life. It is also a time for merriment and gift-giving, and in our House, we give a gift to the temple itself, which will be announced later in the festival. Enjoy this blessed, beautiful holiday and its blessed, beautiful Mistress! I pray in Her name that all of Her blessings, especially in this year of Hethert's particular patronage, be yours! Dua Hethert! Dua Nut! Dua Ra! Nekhtet!

If not...try out your powers of observation today and you may be very pleasantly surprised! I pray in the name of great Hethert, goddess Who has returned to us, that your day is filled with beautiful surprises. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! No special practices today. It is ironic and perhaps fortunate that we have no holiday of our own on a day that is one of the Christian faith's two most sacred holidays, and I know many of you as Kemetic Orthodox either come from Christian backgrounds yourselves or have Christian family and friends who will be celebrating. I know that sometimes it's hard not to feel left out when others are doing something spiritually meaningful and you do not have something to coincide, especially if before your conversion you also engaged in such celebration. Thus, some of you will take part in Christmas either by your own choice or simply to keep peace with relatives who don't understand that this is not a particularly holy day for you. Some of you may feel out of place or like someone is imposing cultural ideas on you that aren't yours. My advice to you today is this: Remember the two most important parts of our faith: Ma'at and family. If your family celebrates Christmas and it would be meaningful to them to give yourself as a gift for the day and take part in their celebration, by all means, do it. Enjoy the blessing of a family that loves each other; but make sure to do it today and every day -- because for us God is reborn with every single sunrise and we don't celebrate a miracle of love and light just once a year. There is one Kemetic rule of thumb for behavior when visiting those of other religions: "In another man's house, respect his gods." This doesn't mean you should Kemet-ify Christmas for yourselves...but if you're called to visit with others who are celebrating, and they want to share with you, enjoy the gift of their sharing and honor it with respect. Religious tolerance means being able to respect religious differences, at the same time being able to keep your own convictions true. May you find peace in what is often a stressful period for persons of many religious backgrounds (including those who normally celebrate Christmas), and enjoy the holiday even if all it means to you is a day off from work. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Between the celebration of Hethert's finding and return and the establishing of the thanksgiving for Her coming, we celebrate several days with no special practices. Today, take some time to think about why you joined the House of Netjer and its Kemetic Orthodox faith (if you are a member; if not, think about what brings you to read these devotions each day), and what you bring to Netjer as your personal offering or gift. Dua-Netjer for each and every one of you. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bast Guards the Two Lands Bast continues to bless us with Her warm presence today. Celebrate Her festival joyfully and fully! Shu, recently returned from His duty as Anhur the bringer of the Distant One, also blesses us today in His festival. It is a very special time for us, as we realize She has been led back to bring us Her light and joy and warmth and love all over again, made manifest in the subtle lenghtening of days occurring now that the shortest day of the year has passed. Make merry and rejoice even if the nights are cold, because warmer ones are coming! (And if that doesn't warm you, remember that our brothers and sisters in Netjer below the Equator are now celebrating Her warmest point and the point of Her departure -- the cycle is occurring even as we speak). May Bast and Shu, the Eyes of Yesterday and Today, bring you all blessings in this holiday. Dua Bast! Dua Shu! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Saq-Bast It is very fitting that Bast greets us at the holiday festival of the Eye's return. May this great goddess of joy fill your heart to the brim with Her subtle, beautiful laughter. Like the purr of a cat it can be felt as well as heard, a warm loving sound in any place it is made. Bast has been meeting and greeting with members of the Daily Ma'at all week. I suspect She'll also make Herself known to the rest of you today, and I'd love to hear your stories! Find a warm purring place in your ka and feel Her contentment as your blessing. Dua Bast! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Feast of Hethert's Return from Bu-gem Rejoice! The Wandering Goddess wanders no more! Found by Djehuty and Anhur, She comes back toward us, Her warmth and light returning in small increments as she comes closer and closer, back from Her wanderings begun at the Summer Solstice. Celebrate, for the Golden One laughs and sings among us again! Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Feast of Nit and Heka of Asheru It is a special day to honor the dead. Rosetjau is the holy cemetery now called Saqqara, and Abdju, or Abydos, is the home of the Letters to the Dead. Nit, creative matrix and mother of time and space; and Heka, the power of words, also celebrate festival today. Combined with the power of the blessed ancestors, this is a holy day for connecting with the entire spirit of your past, present and future. I pray in the name of Nit that you are blessed with a sense of your own history; and in the name of Heka that you find the creativity and the ability to achieve whatever you wish with your present. Honor these gods and dead as we prepare for the Golden One's Return! Dua Nit! Dua Heka! Dua Akhu! Nekhtet!

Tepy-Semdet (Full Moon Festival) Heru's great Eye has returned sound and alive! Nekhtet! Shu, Who sometimes appears as Heru, has now appeared as Anhur, "Bringing the Distant One." The Distant Goddess begins Her trek home tomorrow as the seasons turn again. Nekhtet! Heru-as-Shu appeared last evening in Dua and reminded us of the necessity of bringing the distant together through the mechanism of family. May our family be blessed by His teachings. Today we also make celebration for the Meshenet, the harpooners who keep away all evil. Ask the Meshenet who follow Heru to assist you in all your life's difficulties. May Their spears keep all obstacles clear of your path. Dua Heru! Dua Shu! Dua Meshenet! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Saq Heru-Shu The wind began blowing shortly after midnight. Today, it is roaring around my house in a deafening wail, rattling the windows and frightening Ru, the temple cat. Shu has made His appearance early, in a freak winter windstorm. We look forward to talking with the voice of the winds this evening in our biweekly Dua ceremonies. Tomorrow, we'll share with you what was said by this potent, powerful voice of Netjer. May Heru, Who is also Shu, bless your life with His fresh, cool breezes. Dua Heru-Shu! Nekhtet!

Feast of the Half-Month On the day we celebrate the half-month, close to the time of Heru's returned Eye, we also celebrate the appearance of the Nun. There is no more potent symbol of this season than the primeval waters of creation, the place where it all began. Go back into your own Nun, your own waters, and discover what you can bring forth from it today. Dua Nun! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! There is within each person a small, still voice that knows who they are, what they were born to do, and how they can do it. This small still voice we call a ka. Your ka needs care, even if you don't hear from it that often. Feed it regularly with strong doses of laughter, imagination, inspiration, love and joy. Each feeding will make it stronger, and that much less small and still. Should you feed your ka regularly enough, and strongly enough, that small still voice might become a joyful shout! I pray in the name of Khnum Who Makes Kas that your ka thrives! Dua Khnum! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Feast of Prolonging Life and Making Ma'at Beneficial in the Temple After our day on the coals with Sekhmet, we find a reprieve in today's festival. Making your life longer is always a good thing -- pursue life-giving events today in any way you find appropriate and feed your ka! Ma'at is always beneficial, but She is particularly necessary within the temple, where the gods and goddesses dwell. Make special purifications and offerings of yourself and your shrine today, so that She might be pleased with it even more than usual and grant you Her favor. I pray in Ma'at's name that your ka is fed with these beautiful and fortifying festivals. Dua Ma'at! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Answering Every Speech of Sekhmet Sekhmet, great goddess of Appropriate Action, has us over Her flame today. What have we done in the past year? How have we acted? What goals have we set for ourselves? How have we helped further Ma'at in the world, or where have we fallen down on the job? Be prepared for Her questions today, and also be prepared for Her answers. May Sekhmet find you appropriate in all your thoughts and deeds, and provide you with inspiration for the coming year in the greatest Ma'at. Dua Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Today we focus on the great goddess Bast, Whose shrine is being planned for Tawy House. (Nekhtet! I'm still excited about that!) Reach out today in your shrine and get to know the Invisible Paw. Speak to Her children, observe Her symbol the cat in all of its forms. What can Bast teach you? I pray in Her name that Her subtle clues become manifest. Dua Bast! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Hold a vigil today, for yourself. Light a candle in your shrine and think of all of the good things that you have done since the last time you held a vigil for yourself. Stare at the flame and think about all the good things you intend to do, and all the good things that have come into the world with your help and support. Watch the fire dance and shine, dance and shine. Know that you are the flame of the gods and goddesses, dancing out your life and shining out your love. When you leave your shrine, and the candle must go out...take the flame with you in your eyes and shine it to the world. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! I'm so excited, I have to share! If you look at the Tawy House 2003 Events Calendar, you'll notice we have another grand opening for a permanent outdoor shrine coming up in June. This one is for the great goddess Bast. Please consider being a part of the shrine project, as all Kemetic Orthodox shrines are built by our people, for our people and for all people who love Netjer! Tell everyone you can. Let's make the Bast shrine even more wonderful than the Yinepu shrine....if that's even possible! Dua Bast! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Take a step outside your life and look around. Where is your life headed? Is it the direction you wished to take? Can you tell where the direction goes, either in the short term or the long term? Are there any other people heading in this direction with you? If there are or aren't...is this what you want? Are there any people waiting for you at the next goalpost, or people you've left behind? Why? Is this appropriate? Is it time to go back and find those who've fallen off the path, or steam ahead to the next challenge? Are you going where you need to go with those you need to journey with? Or are you even moving at all? Take a step outside your life. It's much easier to understand from up here. Then step back inside, and go. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Food Offerings for the Dweller in the Great Place Weret, the Great Place, is the cemetery, and its dweller is the great Wesir Whom we have recently celebrated. Honor Him, and your Akhu, with plates of food in the shrines today. If you do not have a shrine, set aside a small portion of whatever's on your personal menu on a small dish, and leave it outside for the spirits and animals to take to the Dweller on your behalf. I will give an extra plate today on all of your behalves, and pray that your Akhu are eternally favorable to you. Dua Wesir! Nekhtet!

Feast of the Coronation (Day 5) At the close of the Coronation festival, we note a special holiday of Sekhmet, Whose flame burns to take away injustice. Where should She place Her flame in your life? As you light the shrine candles or lamps today, consider this placement of the Holy Protectress, and ask for Her help in all of your challenges and life's concerns. May She provide Her burning flame for guidance and protection to each and every one of you. Dua Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Feast of the Coronation (Day 4) We continue to observe the festival of the installation of Heru and Wesir in Their respective kingships. As the month progresses we will be honoring other festivals for the Wandering Eye (Sekhmet-Hethert), and also for the great god Ra, as the season shifts and the days begin to become longer again. There is something very quiet and grand about this time of less light and more silence. Even though it does not last long, it lasts long enough for us to shelter our newfound flames of inspiration so that they might not be blown out before they grow into the burning fires of goals achieved. I pray in the name of Heru that your inner strength carries you from the growing time into the dazzling sun whole and enriched. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Feast of the Coronation (Day 3) We celebrate yet another feast in honor of Sekhmet-Hethert's being turned from destroying the world today, the Day of the Eye's Drunkenness. Beer has already been served up in Her shrine here, and I encourage each of you to offer Her the drinks She loves so that Her heart might be turned toward us in love and peace rather than in anger and disappointment. Last night, 20 or so of you spent the evening with me in celebration and heka for the end of Wesir's Mysteries. It was an intense evening I will remember long, and particularly through the beginning of this special season when everything is coming forth from its beginnings. If you were not able to be there, take out special time today to contemplate those things that must be let go in order for your life to bloom, and ask the Eye of Ra, Sekhmet Herself, today to help you to clear a path through those obstacles toward your own purity and happiness. I pray in great Sekhmet's name that each of you receives the fullness of all Her blessings. Dua Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Feast of the Coronation (Day 2) According to the New Kingdom-dated Cairo Calendar, today, people should "make a holiday in their houses." This, coupled with the celebration of the Pesdjentiu, should make for an exciting and wonderful day! I look forward to meeting with my people in Dua this evening as we celebrate the end of Wesir Mysteries and do some special heka together. I pray in the name of Heru and Wesir, Whose coronation is celebrated under this darkened moon, that this month is very beneficial for you and that the heka of this moon closes the roads to all evil, all loss, all death, all misfortune, all poverty and all negativity in your lives and the lives of your loved ones. First Day of the Kemetic Month We enter the season of Emergence, and the month of Pahenumut or Shef-bedet, sacred to Mut and Min. Sacred festivals abound at the marking of a new season, just like the beginning of our last season with Wep Ronpet, or the Opening of the Year. At Wep Ronpet, I was renewed in kingship. Today, Wesir and Heru are renewed in Their eternal kingships through the Feast of Coronation. Nekhtet! We also honor many other gods and goddesses today, including Neheb-kau the father of ancestors, Tefnut the Original Eye, and a special procession for Mut as Hethert to Her city of Waset. It is a very good day to make offerings and pledges of goals before your gods and to undertake new projects and work. How will you spend your day? Your month? Your season of Emerging? Dua Mut! Mysteries of Wesir (Day 7: Raising the Djed) We end our Wesir festivals for the month and the season with a giant offering festival for the gods and the Akhu, or blessed dead. Here on our festival altar the gods and dead have been given large plates of all kinds of food from our feast last evening, and they have enjoyed it and the lights from the candles and festival trees. It's been a beautiful, and very meaningful, Wesir Mysteries for us. How was your Wesir festival? Can you feel the growth coming forth from this holy week? I pray in the name of Wesir, whose Djed pillar of stability is placed in upright position today, that your stability is the stability of all gods, at all times, in all places. Dua Ptah! Dua Sokar! Mysteries of Wesir (Day 6: Feast of Sokar-Wesir) It's not over yet. In fact, it's becoming worse than ever in some parts of the world. What is it? If you don't know, go find out. And when you find out, tell someone else. It won't be over until we stop forgetting. This year's World AIDS Day focuses on stigma and discrimination. Learn not to do either in your own mind, and you'll be able to teach that to the world. We've already lost one devotee to this battle. One among millions, none of whom have to have died in vain. Keep educating yourself and others. Let's get this over with sooner rather than later.
World AIDS Day Join me in praying, and working, toward an end to AIDS and HIV everywhere. Dua Ptah! Dua Sokar! Dua Wesir! Nekhtet!
