(Year 14, Hethert 25 - III Akhet 25)

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

God(s) of the Month: Hethert
Current Decan: 9: Bekati, "Pregnant Woman"
Today's Festival(s):
Procession of Nebtu & Khnum
"Giving the Throne to Heru"
Heru welcomes the Nile, Day 2

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to:
Shemsu Wereshwesir in Argentina and Remetj Jennifer S. in California (Saturday)

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
If you see anything, it will be good to the heart of the gods.

About fifteen years ago, I took on a student who, unlike the other students I had at that time, was willing to shift with me into strictly Kemetic focus.

Thirteen years ago this evening, that student became the first priest I ordained in the Kemetic Orthodox religion.

Over the years Kai-Imakhu Antybast (Rev. Craig) has become more than a student to me; he is a full partner in the dream I have for the future of this faith, a devoted help, a colleague and a voice of reason. I can say truly that if he had not chosen to walk this road with me, none of you would be walking it now, or at very least, not in the manner we've been walking it together all this time. He has always been there to encourage and advise and help and even kick my ass when it was needed, and I will always be grateful for his presence in my life and my life's work.

To my chief priest and best friend, I say thank you, and happy ordination anniversary. Thank you for everything. May Bast continue to bless you with fierce drive and may Djehuty never recall your wisdom.

Dua Nebtu! Dua Khnum! Dua Heru-sa-Aset! Dua Heru-ankhu! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

(Year 14, Hethert 22 - III Akhet 22)

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

God(s) of the Month: Hethert
Current Decan: 9: Bekati, "Pregnant Woman"
Today's Festival(s):
Feast of Heka

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to:
Divined Remetj Mara W. in Nebraska (yesterday)
Shemsut-Ankh Tanebetheru in Germany and Shemsut-Ankh Iadet-senuwi in Hawai'i (today)

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
Raising Ma'at in order to see Ra, when She is summoned by the gods in Ra's Presence. A uraeus was placed upon Her, and another below Her, being fixed at the front of the Mesektet boat.

Heka, deity and concept of deliberate speaking sometimes referred to as "magic," is in festival today.

Think about how you use words in your life, whether they are the words you speak aloud to others, or the words you speak inwardly to yourself.

What power in words can you use to bring blessing and strength to your life?

How can you change the way you use your words, your personal heka, to improve your conditions and the conditions of the world you live in?

I challenge you to heka. Use it -- and use it wisely -- today and always.

As Ma'at is brought forth as the Ultimate Eye of Ra on this day, may She be present in your use of the power of Heka, given to mankind by the Creator.

Dua Heka! Nekhtet!

(Year 14, Hethert 20 - III Akhet 20)

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

God(s) of the Month: Hethert
Current Decan: 8: Weshty, "Fat Woman"
Today's Festival(s):
Procession of Bast, Lady of Ankh-Tawy
Feast of Hethert of the Heden

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to:
Remetj Helen O. in Washington state
Remetj Eva F. in Texas
Remetj Matt J. in California

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
The going forth of Bast, Mistress of Ankh-Tawy, in front of Ra, She being angry. The god could not stand up in Her vicinity. Anyone born on this day will die in a year of pestilence.

Bast goes forth angry today, so angry in fact that the very sun cannot stand against Her.

What angers Bast?

Better yet, what can one do to avoid Her anger?

As the avenging Eye of Ra, Bast carries out the divine punishment against those who would threaten the helpless, human or otherwise. She reaches out with Her claws to scratch those Who would compromise the safety of any She has promised it to. She carries Her aegis against any threat, known or unknown.

May She come today only in your defense.

I pray in the name of this great goddess Who encircles the land at daytime that She is protective of all those She loves, and that each of you might stand there with Her.

Dua Bast! Nekhtet!

Reach out to someone you don't know very well, and get to know that person.

Allow someone to reach out to you.

The touch of another person, whether hand to hand or heart to heart is a special blessing of the gods and goddesses.

May you touch, and be touched, with Their blessings today.

Day of Strife of the Children of Geb

Say heru em meses nefer (Happy birthday!) to:
Shemsu Yinepuhotep in New Hampsire and Remetj Penny S. in Washington state

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
It is the day of strife by the children of Geb.

Change is a vexing constant in our lives, throwing challenges and difficulties into our experience perhaps at the time we least wish to have them.

It is notable that in the mythologies and religious stories of Kemet that even our gods are subject to change, challenge and even conflict. The stories surrounding the children of Geb (Wesir, Heru-wer, Set, Aset and Nebt-het) are particularly known for accounts of fighting, arguments, challenges and contests. These gods are constantly in play, putting each others' interests over the next, striving to "win" contests designed to see which one is the "best," and so on.

Does this mean we have a soap opera pantheon, or does it perhaps suggest something deeper?

The children of Geb (Father Earth Himself) are not only gods and goddesses, but representatives of the very building-blocks of life on earth: Wesir represents growth and creativity and potential and fertility. Heru-wer represents the strength and protection inherent in order and leadership. Set represents the strength and protection inherent in shaking up the existing order now and then, the possibilities given when we break our molds of thought and test our mettle. On the most one-dimensional level, Aset represents life and Nebt-het death, though both are at least as complex as those simple terms.

All of these forces "compete" in our world and create the beautiful, sometimes unpredictable tapestry that is life as we know it. May each of Them be justified in Their struggles and may They continue to strive together to bless us as we bless ourselves through connection with Them.

Dua Wesir! Dua Heru-wer! Dua Set! Dua Aset! Dua Nebt-het! Nekhtet!

At Pesdjentiu we enter the season of Wesir's mysteries, which will begin at the next Pesdjentiu during secular November. At this time, make offerings to your ancestors and to your gods and take in the harvest of your busy year as you prepare for another one. We also celebrate the establishment of stability itself in the form of the Djed pillar, this one belonging to the Creator Tem, and a joyous sun festival in honor of Ra. All the sky is in celebration, and so are our people!

We have just sent out approximately 98 invitations to the newest Beginners' Group to begin next week. If you have sent us an application and did not receive an invitation to join us, please contact us right away. If you have received an invitation, be sure and respond before the deadline so we can get you into our next class. It's very exciting to start another set of classes and bring in a new group of people to our nation and family. Welcome home.

As we prepare for our pilgrimage to Egypt in honor of my tenth year as Nisut, only a couple of weeks away, things will continue to be happy and busy. It's a good time for us and I hope to be able to keep you informed as so many things are happening -- we're working out a way I can check in from Egypt as well. Eight of us will honor the gods and the people of our beloved homeland as we celebrate the Heb-Sed jubilee, and bring home many stories to share. Upon my return we'll be hosting the annual Wesir Mysteries, as the year turns and we move through another Kemetic season.

May you have a very blessed weekend and a joyous week ahead.

Dua Khmun wer! Dua Tem! Dua Ra! Dua Aset! Dua Nebt-het! Dua Wesir-Unnefer! Nekhtet!

"Cairo Calendar" Entry:
Trembling of the earth under Nun.

We have just completed a nine-day work study here at Tawy House ending with the Eye of Ra Intensive, where 15 people came together to praise, honor and learn about the various goddesses (and a very few gods) associated with the symbol of the Sacred Eye. We learned about the three kinds of Eyes and how They work in the world, and more importantly, how we can further Their work with our own lives, thoughts and actions.

As it is the Eye's Year, I ask that She bless all of us with Her protection, wisdom and creative power. May we be able to accept these blessings and in turn give them to the rest of our world so that Her blessing can be spread as far as that Eye can see.

Give an offering today to the Gods of the Year, the Eye of Ra and Montu, and renew your commitment to a better world.

Dua Iryt-Ra! Nekhtet!
