About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

Tepy-Semdet (Full Moon Festival)

The Moon comes into His fullness, and we celebrate its healing, gentle light, as well as its survival of the most recent eclipse.

In antiquity, special heka would be done at the time of an eclipse to reinforce the ma'at of the world, to give incentive for the natural order of things to return. Last night in our biweekly Dua, we chose to "fight the eclipse" with the joyfulness of a Shemsu Naming Ceremony. More than 40 people witnessed the Naming of eight new Shemsu and the Rootnaming of three children of the faith.

A huge nekhtet! to:

Serutaset of Kansas, daughter and Shemsut of Aset-Serqet
Metenutemheru of Idaho, daughter and Shemsut of Heru-wer
Siqretemsenu of New York, daughter and Shemsut of Djehuty and Heru-sa-Aset
Henatsobek of California, daughter and Shemsut of Sobek
Tasawiemaset of New York, daughter and Shemsut of Aset-Serqet
Ityetbastmut of Tennessee, daughter and Shemsut of Bast-Mut
Padjaiemweru of Ohio, son and Shemsu of Bast-Mut and Heru-wer
Sakhetraheruakhety of Indiana, daughter and Shemsut of Ra-Heruakhety

and

Yinepuemhebet, rootnamed daughter of Serutaset and Seny-setjeni "Senset"
Nakhtemhebet, rootnamed daughter of Iadet-senuwi and Zion
Hekenutemhebet, rootnamed daughter of Rudjeniheru and Senamun

May all the gods and goddesses bless all of our Shemsu of Kemet, and the children who are the future of our faith.

Dua Iah! Dua Wesir! Dua Heru! Dua Djehuty! Dua Sokar! Nekhtet!

Feast of Heka

It is a magical day.

Fifty-five (yes, 55) people were just accepted into our very next Beginners' Course. If you haven't received an acceptance mail in the next 24 hours, and you've already sent in an application, contact my office and let us know. We did have some problems with bouncing emails, so if you've changed your mail since you applied we need to know your new e-mail!

This evening, we will be meeting to offer Shemsu Names to our newest group of Shemsu, and Root Names to a number of new babies and children in the faith. Nekhtet!

Heka is everywhere. Can you hear Him? I pray that His messages come through loud and clear and His magic reinforces you in all good ways.

Dua Heka! Nekhtet!

Feast of Shu

Like the breath of life of Shu, Daily Devotions return. Nekhtet!

We have been very busy offline at the temple this month with renovating the second-floor bathroom. I would like to give a huge Dua-Netjer enek to Robb, husband to Biaytsekhmet and father of Ptah-sokaremheb, for his amazing carpentry efforts and his ability to lead completely clueless me in the renovating efforts. (He's so good, I haven't even hit my hand with a hammer!)

I would also like to thank Kai-Imakhu Antybast, Kai-Imakhu Inibmutes, Kai-Imakhu Niankhsekhmet, W'abet Sekhmetresut and Shemsu-Ankh Userbenu for giving of their time to help us out during this project, now entering its third weekend. Every bit of help has made a difference, and I am very appreciative to everyone for offering their vehicles, their time and the work of their very hands to help get it done.

When we're done, you'll just have to come visit the temple! There's still some room at the Bast Intensive (November 12-14) - drop us a line and let us know if you're coming! We'd love to see you.

Dua Shu! Nekhtet!

Pesdjentiu (New Moon Festival)

As Heru's injured Eye grows strong again, we begin the latter half of the month. Here in Joliet the days are growing darker as the Eye of Ra resumes Her journey southward, and we're gathering in the last of the roses still blooming in the yard before the probability of a killing frost not very far away.

It is a time to settle in and work, for me. October usually begins the busiest part of my year, when I do most of my writing and the least of my traveling, and when I teach in person at retreats here at the temple. This year is shaping up to be no exception to that, and there are some really exciting things just on the horizon for the Imhotep Seminary and our schedule here at Tawy House. I hope to see many of you in the coming months and to worship with you, share with you and learn with you.

I also feel very grateful at this time of renewal, and I want to say thanks, again, for all of you who walk this path with me, and for all that you have given me, taught me, and continue to offer to me as a fellow child of these wonderful gods and goddesses. May we always know love and ma'at.

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Saq-Aset

I have returned from a trip to New York City, where I was invited to meet with an interfaith group from Haiti to discuss potential Udjat Foundation work in the shadow of massive hurricane damage and other needs for its children and all manner of people after political turmoil.

While I am definitely glad to be home again I know I will be thinking about what I learned for some time. There are so many people, in Haiti, in New York, even in our own hometowns, who need to know that they are loved, that they are valuable children of the gods and goddesses.

You know at least one person who could use your help.

Can you give it?

I pray in the name of the great goddess Aset, Who appears to give us messages today, that She grants you a compassionate heart and the ability to be helpful, even in the smallest way, to another one of Netjer's children.

Dua Aset! Nekhtet!

First Day of the Kemetic Month
Feast of the Members of Heaven
Saq-Heru
Feast of Sekhmet

The third month of Inundation brings with it an entire month of festivals dedicated to the goddess Hethert-Sekhmet. As our main shrine is partially dedicated to Her (She is the "Mother" in its name, Truth and the Mother), I will be making special offerings and prayers to the Golden Goddess throughout the month, for love, prosperity and joy to manifest in all homes and to all people.

We celebrate the time we share with the Eye of Ra, whether it's a farewell party (for those of us in the northern hemisphere, we won't see Her in full strength again until the vernal equinox), or a welcoming party for Her return, as those of our family of faith in the southern hemisphere welcome the coming of their spring. We wish Her well on Her journeys and ask for Her attention and blessing on our lives.

May She grant your every wish and remind you constantly of all the love Netjer holds for each of us.

Dua Hethert! Dua Heru! Dua Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Last Day of the Kemetic Month

We enter the second half of the season of Akhet today. The Eye of Ra is heading back to Nubia, bringing with it the colder season for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, and taking the heat to the Southern Hemisphere as they begin their season of spring.

As the seasons cross, it is a time to take stock, to adjust and readjust our goals and challenges, and to go forth with those goals and challenges into the rest of the Kemetic Year.

Spend a special moment today communicating the "state of your life" to your gods and goddesses. I'm sure They will be very happy to offer advice and support, and you may be very surprised at the results.

I pray in the names of the three great gods honored on the end of each month that your next month be even more successful than this one was.

Dua Ra! Dua Heru! Dua Wesir! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
