About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

Hethert's Festival Month
Heru Welcomes the Nile (Day 5)
Establishing the Djed-Pillar of Temu

The Complete One, Self-Created, the Great He-She Who Made Itself, establishes djed, or stability, today. Coming at the end of Hethert's holiday month, and in the midst of the Heru Nile festival, this is a beautiful opportunity to renew promises, make new ones, and declare goals and intentions toward new beginnings.

We offer you a special opportunity sponsored by the Imhotep Kemetic Orthodox Seminary today, that of joining a moderated mailing list for e-mailing these Daily Devotions, as well as other inspirational words and teachings from me each day. This list is a first for our faith in that it will be open to all, not just Kemetic Orthodox devotees!

Proceeds from list membership will go to support the House of Netjer temple, as well as to continue programming for our Udjat Foundation for Children and Tawy House Conference and Retreat Center. I look forward to offering these special devotions to you as part of my renewed service to Netjer's children near and far.

May Temu bring you completeness and stability in this blessed time.

Dua Hethert! Dua Heru! Dua Temu! Nekhtet!

Hethert's Festival Month
Heru Welcomes the Nile (Day 4)
Festival of Sokar

Sokar embodies darkness; quite literally, the dark place from which many creation myths say life itself springs forth. This can be the dark earth, uncharted waters, or even the unlighted expanses of space, from which stars were born.

Sokar is also Wesir, He Who is Growth in all of its forms, potential and sustenance.

Sokar can also be Ptah, the Maker, Who makes what will not grow naturally without assistance.

Celebrate this day in honor of Sokar, in the darkness, the space between one life and the next. Cast your wishes into this darkness and watch as they explode into life.

Dua Hethert! Dua Heru! Dua Sokar! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
We celebrate today as the spiritual birthday of the House of Netjer's Chief Priest, Kai-Imakhu Sepedher Antybast. Nine years ago this evening, he was ordained to the service of his gods and the nation of Kemet. Happy Birthday, Kai-Imakhu. May you enjoy a long service in the shadow of your Mother's Invisible Paw.

Heru Welcomes the Nile (Day 3)

Creativity springs forth in many forms. In this afternoon's International Dua service, I heard from our members about their goals and projects, and we shared ways in which we can make them even better using the power of this very special season we're entering.

We offer prayers of thanks that all of our International devotees were able to get home from their London meeting last weekend without incident, even given the major storms throughout Europe, and pray that they and their neighbors and friends recover quickly from lack of power, water, and other difficulties. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the weekend, and to our being able to post all the pictures I've been promised very soon!

Hethert's Festival Month
Heru Welcomes the Nile (Day 2)

The Inundation has finally come. In antiquity this time was a festival of great abundance, of realizing that the time of creativity, the realization of the goals that were pursued all summer, is at hand. As the lifegiving waters returned with a great rush, people gathered at the river's banks to give thanks, throwing in offerings and prayers, watching as the Nisut or priests made the official calculation of the flood's depths at temple Nileometers, and taking part in the celebration of life.

Today, the Nile floods only below the Sudanese-Egyptian border thanks to the Aswan Dam. However, the time of celebrating plenty is still very much alive, as most of the northern hemisphere is engaged in harvest, and the southern hemisphere in planting and preparing for harvest. The whole round earth still knows that this is a time to count the blessings, give thanks to the Creator, and celebrate life.

Join us in our celebration of life during this very special time.

Dua Hethert! Dua Heru! Nekhtet!

Hethert's Festival Month
Feast of Shu

Last night, about 30 people joined us in biweekly Dua service to honor Bast. As part of the ritual of Saq, She joined us and blessed us with Her presence and gentle words, reminding everyone present of the necessity of celebration and joy in one's life, and how holding on to joy, even in times when joy is not present, can carry you on to the next joy. As She told us, and as She asked us to tell others:

"Remember the feelings of celebration. Take this time and hold it tight to your breast. This can sustain you in hard and lean times, because a celebration is a promise. No matter how few and far between they may be, there is always another party."

Celebrate in your home today, that you might carry this joyfulness into the days to come and thus make more joyfulness. May Shu, great and mighty wind, carry your joy with you as you walk your life's path.

Hethert's Festival Month

Tomorrow we celebrate Bast, the Lady of Ankhtawy, Mennefer's sacred burial grounds.

As we enter the season of honoring the dead, both from the Kemetic standpoint (Mysteries of Wesir, etc.) and a modern one (All Saints, All Souls, Hallowe'en, Samhain), it is a good time to give thanks to your ancestors for being part of the reason you walk this earth at this time.

Honor your dead, honor the living who come from the dead, and may Bast bring you peace.

Hethert's Festival Month
Tepy-Semdet (Full Moon Festival)

Over the weekend, during the Pesdjet (Great Nine) Festival, almost all of the minister-level priests of Kemetic Orthodoxy met for a spiritual weekend, to recharge the ministry batteries and make plans for future growth and service to Netjer's people.

We planned the events calendar for the House of Netjer and Tawy House, gathered information for courses to be offered at the Imhotep Seminary, discussed the formation of a members' council, and other new ideas and projects in our personal and group ministry to serve Netjer and bring Ma'at to the world in bigger and better ways. More information about these projects will be forthcoming over the next few days, but I wanted you to know that we're home and we're more proud than ever to be able to work with each of you, the children of the gods and goddesses, as we continue to grow and become as people of Kemet.

See you on the boards, and see you around the temple!

Hethert's Festival Month
Feast of the Half-Month

We are halfway through Hethert's month of beauty and plenty. How are your goals coming along?

The ministers of Kemetic Orthodoxy will be meeting this weekend at Tawy House to map out future event calendars, make plans for changes to our websites and forums, and other exciting news we'll be sharing as they complete some spiritual recharging time with me away from the city.

May you also take some time this weekend to find your spiritual center, as the month itself comes into equilibrium and we ready for its second portion.

Wesir Sails to Abdju

We come to the season of preparation. Wesir's Mysteries approach soon, and the rebirth of a new cycle of life in this ceremony, as well as the even nearer Heru Welcoming the Nile Festival, promise new and restored situations all over our lives.

Make preparation yourself, as Wesir sails forth to return to the site of His transformations. Check your goals; make decisions. Be ready when the season of transformation commences, so that when the flood of creativity and newness arrives, you are flowing with it rather than against it.

I pray in Wesir's name that all your potentials spring forth like new budded plants.

Hethert's Festival Month
"Pacification of the Hearts of the Gods, Wherever They Are

with a little help from a prayer of St. Francis

Netjer, make us an instrument of Your peace;
where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Gods and Goddesses of Kemet,
grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in loving, where we affirm Your love for us.

May all the gods and goddesses under Ma'at bring love, life, health, joy, prosperity, consolation, hope and peace, and may we be its bearers upon Their peaceful hearts.

Hethert's Festival Month

Sit quietly before your god(s) and or goddess(es) today, whether that is within a sacred space like a shrine, or within the sacred creation They have made for you.

Take a very deep breath, close your eyes, and be very aware of your place within that creation.

While it may be a small place, do not become overwhelmed; you are still a part of it. Each and every creation is a part of the whole, no matter if they are not all large or small, all equal or different. From the Creator, all places, all parts, all roles to be played are given, each being its own particular and special blessing.

Within your unique place in creation, feel Their blessing, and know you are Their most important and beloved child.

After a brief hiatus, International Duas and Saq-Nisut chats online will resume Tuesday, October 15. Contact your Imyu-ra for more information, or check out the calendar on the members' site for times and topics! I'm delighted to be returning to these two special and important chats.

While we have no special practices today, it is never a bad idea to give offerings to our Akhu, the blessed ancestors, or to spend time in creation. Enjoy your day and give thanks to Netjer, all the gods and goddesses (or even just a particular few) for it!

Hethert's Festival Month

In this golden month, remember the power of love to transcend all discomfort, all jealousy, all hatred, all misunderstanding.

Hold tight to the hands of the Mother, the Golden One, and watch all those things fall away as She lifts you up higher to another level, a level where Ma'at is so fresh you can feel Her on your face.

Give Her your love, and feel the ecstasy of having that love returned fulfilled, completed, wholly divine.

I pray in Her name that you may taste of this golden nectar called love, and rejoice.

Saq-Aset

This afternoon we received a new Shemsu in the faith! Charlotte was divined as a daughter of Yinepu, beloved of Wesir! Nekhtet! Always exciting when we get to add more people to our family.

Tonight, I am proud to announce one of our several upcoming announcements. Tawy House Kemetic Orthodox Retreat Center is about to have an expansion in the form of the Imhotep Kemetic Orthodox Seminary, a school of our faith. In addition to taking over the training programs for our different priesthood positions, the seminary will offer courses to Kemetic Orthodox devotees and the general public in the history, language, culture and religion of Kemet as well as modern Kemetic Orthodoxy practice.

I am very excited that we have reached a point in our growth and mission that we are able to expand our educational emphasis into its own institution, and I encourage you to watch this website over the coming days and weeks as our seminary's Internet presence takes shape. May Imhotep, the great Akhu for Whom we have named our seminary grant it great success in the future.

Hethert's Festival Month

After a computer update, we're back! Nekhtet! (Not even the Nisut is immune from Windows updates....) I've missed you very much.

Last night the children of Netjer in Kemetic Orthodoxy received a special visit from Aset in our biweekly Dua service. Called a Saq, or "appearance," these special rituals are one way that the gods and goddesses manifest in our lives. Excellent advice, blessings and love were passed on to everyone, even those not present. Enjoy Her blessing!

Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
Today we also continue the Hethert exercises on the Hotep List, a private mailing list for members who donate to the House of Netjer to keep it operating. I am very interested in hearing more from those members on the list about how their experiences with the Golden Lady are progressing! For the members of the Kemetic Orthodox House of Netjer interested in taking part in this special set of exercises designed to get to know the gods and goddesses more, consider becoming a donating member of our temple. A minimum pledge of a $15 monthly donation automatically secures your place on this exciting and very interesting unmoderated list, and the income derived from Hotep List keeps us online and bringing Netjer to you. For non-members, well... watch for those special announcements coming soon for more news; one of them will give you some information about a new mailing list that you can join!

Hethert's Festival Month

It's raining here; I'm told this rain and wind are the remnants of the two major storms that battered the US southeast coast over the past week. Considering I'm thousands of miles away...that's a very sobering thought. My prayers and thoughts continue to go out to everyone who was in the direct path of the hurricanes, and particularly my Shemsu, Remetj and Probationers. Please be sure and write us and let us know you're safe and sound as soon as you can return home.

Use this weekend to rest and recuperate for the week to come. I have a feeling it will be a very productive and exciting one for many.

First Day of the Kemetic Month
Hethert's Festival Month: Feast of the Members of Heaven

We welcome the third month of Inundation, named for Hethert the Golden One, goddess of all that is joyful, beautiful and enduring. As Kemetic Orthodox Year 10 is also considered to be under Hethert's special protection, we believe it will be an especially lucky and fortuitous month for our people and our world. Nekhtet!

Take time today to give thanks to another person for something he or she has done for you, however small or simple. It is a good day to remind your friends (and yourself) of love and gratitude.

Last Day of the Kemetic Month

The second month of the first season has passed, and on we go into the later periods of the Inundation. Many things are happening; it's a challenge to stay on top of them!

I was very tickled by the outpouring of letters I got around yesterday's devotion. Will do my best to try and be similarly inspired in the future!

What was said there really is true, though. The only day that you really have, is today. Make the best of it. Enjoy it, give praise for its coming, and do something good with it. Each positive thought, each positive action, all add to the balance of Ma'at that keeps those sunrises coming.

The sun rises.

The birds sing the praise of dawn, as Set's spear moves in its backward swing, splaying the blood of the Uncreated from horizon to horizon.

The leaves whisper excitement and joy as Nebt-het releases the doorway of twilight.

The sun rises.

A king stands in a window and offers praise to Ra-Heruakhety as He rises, as many of her people join in their own shrines around the world, praising the reddening that means Zep Tepi has come once again.

The sun rises.

It is a new day. It is not yesterday.

As we end the second Kemetic month, many things are happening in and around the temple. I will be making some very interesting and exciting announcements publicly toward the end of this week - so watch this space for them!

Today, as you spend time with Netjer, in your shrine or just in the living of your life, give thanks for something. Even if you can't think of anything to be grateful for off the top of your head...give thanks for being alive and able to give thanks.
