Feast of Ptah
Feast of Heka

Creativity in two forms: physical and spoken, is in festival today.

Great Ptah, Who made the universe with His hands at the prompting of His mouth and His heart, is in festival.

Heka, Who sits in Ra's boat and Whose words are the words that make things happen, is also in festival.

Together, They represent the entire creative process, from the desire to create to the finished product.

May both gods bless you, and may you receive Their blessings as you work today. Use it as a day for magic and for creative challenge. Make it yours.

Dua Ptah! Dua Heka! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

As the Festival in honor of Hethert-Tefnut-Sekhmet ends, we have entered a new part of the meteorological calendar: autumn for Kemet and those of us in the northern hemisphere, and spring for those in the southern hemisphere. The change has come, the Goddess is moving, and everything is filled with the possibility of many things.

Give special offerings to the Distant Goddess today whether She is drawing near to you or moving away, and ask Her to lend Her creative powers to your goals in this season.

May She bless you very richly and may you have excellent results.

Dua Hethert-Tefnut-Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Feast of 17-23 Paenopet, Day 6

Today's continuation of the equinox festival honors the god Sobek, Whose crocodile form protects and cleanses all waters.

Think about the creative and protective powers of water today. Make an offering in your shrine that includes clear, cool water, and make a point of not wasting any water today in His honor.

What does water tell you about your life?

What does it tell you about the gods and goddesses?

Listen to its story and be surprised.

Dua Hethert-Tefnut-Sekhmet! Dua Sobek! Nekhtet!

Feast of 17-23 Paenopet, Day 5
Procession of Meret

The feast of the change continues, along with another procession for "Meret," or "the beloved goddess." On this day, Meret is not the title of Satet like it was last week, but of Nit-Nebthet-Seshat, another of the great Creator Goddesses.

Out of nothingness She made the Universe as a part of Her own body.

Life is inherently a part of the Matrix, the Mother Who is All.

She is space, time and history; lineage and expectation; life and death and everything in between.

Get to know the greatest of all goddesses on this day.

She is as close as your heartbeat.

Dua Hethert-Tefnut-Sekhmet! Dua Meret! Nekhtet!

Feast of 17-23 Paenopet, Day 2
Feast of Khnum, Anuket, and Meret

On this second day of celebrating the change of the season, we also honor the creator god Khnum and two of His goddesses: Anuket and Meret, "the beloved," another name for the goddess Satet on this day.

Creativity abounds.

What will you do with your creativity today?

I pray in the name of these greatly powerful goddesses and god that you find inspiration and are able to capitalize on it. Make it a creative weekend!

Feast of Khesa-Wesir
Feast of 17-23 Paenopet, Day 1

As the Sacred Eye becomes the Wandering Goddess, we rejoice.

For those in the Northern Hemisphere, bid Her goodbye for a season, as She races southward and takes with Her summer's heat and long days.

For those in the Southern Hemisphere, prepare for Her return with the lengthening of the days and the return of warmth thanks to Shu (as Anhur, "the one who brings the distant one") and Djehuty's intervention to convince Her to keep moving and thus keep our world in balance.

Either way, it is a day to honor the great Lady, the Eye, the Sun, as She moves through the heavens.

May this great goddess bless you in many ways, as Wesir looks on from the Duat.

Dua Khesa-Wesir! Dua Hethert-Tefnut-Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

Feasts of Nit, Wesir and the Eye of Heru
"The Great and Little Nine emerge from Nun"

On the eve of the shift of seasons we meet with great gods indeed. Nit the Creatrix, Wesir Who owns the Duat, and the Eye of Heru, splendid Sacred Eye Which is the Sun and all offerings, are all in festival on this holy day as all the gods, great and small, come forth to greet Them!

Make it a special day to make resolutions and plans for the coming months. Give special offerings to your Akhu, spirits and gods in honor of the feast which we will celebrate throughout the weekend, as the Sacred Eye begins Her trek away from Kemet and toward our people in the Southern Hemisphere. We wish Her well as She begins Her movements once again.

I pray in the name of all the gods and goddesses, all the Akhu and all the spirits that it is a joyful and wonderful day, and that something of this joy touches you in the deepest places of your soul.

Dua Nit! Dua Wesir Dua Udjat Heru! Dua Pesdjet weret! Dua Pesdjet sherit! Nekhtet!

Feast of Hapy
Procession of Khnum-Ra
Heru Receives the White Crown

I have returned from travelling and the Devotions will return to their regularly scheduled place. Nekhtet! I missed you all very much.

The last of the four days of the Four Sons of Heru is celebrated today, for Hapy, baboon-Netjeri Who helps protect the dead. May He protect all of your Akhu and all the dead as we remember Them.

Khnum-Ra, Khnum as the brilliant and shining Creator, is also in festival today. This is a god many people do not know very well, either as Khnum-Ra or as His separate syncretistic parts; perhaps by His design, as He prefers to create in secret, in the private quiet of the darkness before the dawn.

The next time you find yourself awake in the small space before dawn, think about Khnum-Ra, and think about what He is doing to make a Zep Tepi, a new beginning, for each day.

He is such a gentle and loving Presence. I hope that each of you has a chance to feel that strong, silent, supportive love in your lives.

May He bless you as well as Heru-sa-Aset, Who celebrates on this day the reception of a part of His leadership power.

Creation and power and protection are yours.

Will you take them?

Dua Hapy! Dua Khnum-Ra! Dua Heru-sa-Aset! Nekhtet!

Feast of Gembaues

The Feast of "Finding Its Power" has arrived, a special holiday of Yinepu in antiquity where He inspected the embalming places and made sure that the dead were being taken care of properly and respectfully.

Make a special trip today to a cemetery, mausoleum, morgue, or funeral home. Say prayers on behalf of the dead there and for Yinepu to bless and protect them on their journeys. Share letters with your dead as well as offerings. Make it a special day of holiday in Their honor!

I pray in Yinepu's name for blessings upon the living and the dead alike.

Saq-Heru-wer, Day 1
Procession of Sobek to see His Mother Nit, Day 1
Feast of Djehuty, Day 1

Heru-wer comes, bringing success and strength, power and prowess, gentle leadership and a sense of humor. At the same time, Sobek comes forth to visit with Nit, and the great god Djehuty is also in festival. Protection, protection, creation and wisdom are in our midst.

How will you greet these mighty gods as They come forth in the season of the Inundation?

What will They have to say to you?

I pray in their names that you receive insight and information on this day as well as blessing to improve your lives.

We continue our efforts to get help to those displaced in the US Gulf Coast. I should have some more information on the Daily Ma'at list later this afternoon, and our Usha has shared that her workplace is taking in survivors who may not be able to go home for weeks or months. (Nekhtet for Blackwater Campground!). Many amazing things are happening as people reach out to each other, and this needs to continue as people are still in need and in danger. We also need to make sure we do not fall back on our other service commitments to serve everyone who needs help, not just those in the direst need.

May Heru-wer, Sobek, Nit and Djehuty bless this day.

Dua Heru-wer! Dua Sobek! Dua Nit! Dua Djehuty! Nekhtet!

First Day of the Kemetic Month
Guarding the Eye of Heru/Jubilation of the Great Nine
Feast of Wadjet

The month turns and brings with it a holiday in honor of Wadjet, embodied in the spitting cobra whose fire turns away the enemies of Ma'at.

This month of our season of Inundation is sometimes called Menkhet, or clothing. I am finding significant meditation on the idea that we bring clothing after a flood -- and that clothing is one of the four things mentioned in an ancient standard formula for "ethical actions":

I gave food to the hungry,
water to the thirsty,
clothes to the naked,
and a boat to the one who had no boat.

All four of these things (food, water, clothing and transportation) are now desperately needed by the people of the U.S. Gulf Coast. They are still needed by thousands of people still displaced and forgotten from December's tsunamis in southeast Asia. They are needed by millions of people all over the world, the poor, the children, the forgotten, the elderly -- the people whom we need to be helping the most.

What will you do to give food, water, clothing and a boat to those who need them? Share your thoughts in our Forums at Random Acts of Service. It should not take a disaster like either of these disasters to awaken our sense of care and concern for our fellow beings -- but when such a thing occurs, it is even more of a sin to stand idly by and do nothing at all.

Join the Daily Ma'at list for updates on those we are praying for who are displaced, missing or injured in the Gulf Coast devastation, and more details on specific ways you can help, from prayers to donations to volunteering to mobilization to information. There is something everyone can do to help in the life of another and it begins by giving a damn.

May we keep the Udjat Heru, the Sacred Eye Who embodies all pure offerings, safe on this day and may Wadjet help us protect the innocent.

Dua Udjat Heru! Dua Pesdjet! Dua Wadjet! Nekhtet!
