About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

Opet (Day 5 of 11)
Feast of Montu and Heru (Day 1 of 2)
Processions of Hethert (until III Akhet 3)

Opet ushers in a festival of Montu, the great warrior god of Uaset's antiquity later folded into the image of Amun-as-warrior; and of Heru, the lord of the kingship that is renewed at this time.

On these two days may you find renewal in your own strength, stamina, and courage. May the gods give you the ability to push through any obstacles you might be finding in your life and to realize the potential of your own power.

I pray in the names of all of these mighty gods and goddesses that Their blessings refresh you fully.

Dua Amun! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu! Dua Montu! Dua Heru! Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Opet (Day 4 of 11)
Feast of Sokar
Opening and Sealing the Windows of the Palace
Processions of Hethert (until III Akhet 3)

As we celebrated Ptah as Builder yesterday, the active creator, today we celebrate a festival for Sokar, the contemplative, inert and quiet, quiescent form of potential.

What potential do you have to give to the world that is simply lying in wait for its proper moment?

Bring it forth and shine. Its proper moment is now, as we prepare for a new season and carry forth our light into the new year.

Dua Amun! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu! Dua Sokar! Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Opet (Day 3 of 11)
Feasts of Ptah and Heka
Processions of Hethert (until III Akhet 3)

We add celebrations of Ptah, the creator of Mennefer; and Heka, great of magic, to our Opet celebrations today. Rejuvenate yourself and feel the world renewing around you. Do something special to open your creative powers and add your own creations to the world.

I pray in the names of these great powers that you find inspiration in everything you take in on this day.

Opet (Day 2 of 11)
Processions of Hethert (until III Akhet 3)

This morning at sunrise, I prayed for the blessing of all our people, all the children of Netjer, known and unknown.

While I always have moving sunrise services, this morning's was particularly special to me. I'm not sure whether it was because the visual outside my window was so stunning with the recent cold snap and a very clear twilit sky, or the power of the love coming from the Opet shrines, or maybe it was just me getting sentimental as I get old...but there was something very powerful in the words of rising and blessing today, something that makes my heart lighter and yet more full at the same time.

The power of love is seen in the rising of Ra after the end of a night. Love is the mechanism of Zep Tepi, the renewal each feels at the start of a new day, a new year, a new cycle -- the renewal of love that never dies.

I love you. May Opet bring you all the best.

Dua Amun! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu! Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
"Whenever I go to the chapel, I put myself in the presence of our good Lord, and I say to him 'Lord, I am here. Tell me what you would have me do.'....And then, I tell God everything that is in my heart. I tell him about my pains and my joys, and then I listen. If you listen, God will also speak to you, for with the good Lord, you have to both speak and listen. God always speaks to you when you approach him plainly and simply."

Feast of 17-23 Paopet (Day 7)
Opet (Day 1 of 11)
Pesdjentiu (New Moon Festival)
Processions of Hethert (until III Akhet 3)

The Daily Ma'at list has been moved to a temporary new home until our mailing list software is fixed. If you are on the list and do not start receiving mailings again today, please let us know.

The Great Feast of Opet begins today at the new moon of II Akhet. It is a celebration of the marriage festival of Amun and Mut, and also a holiday celebrating Their entire family, including Their son Khonsu and Min, another form of Amun. During Opet, major celebrations are held for the renewal of the universe via Amun as creator, and the rejuvenation of the lands under the spirit of kingship, the kingly ka, which celebrates its "birthday" at this time.

There are some really exciting things going on in our temple coincident with this year's Opet. Most of our new W'abu consecrated during New Year have started performing their state temple rituals now in their own shrines, growing Ma'at for our people. We are working on several really big projects (news in a week or so -- I don't want to spoil the surprise), and an Imakhu-level priest retreat will be held next weekend to continue planning for the faith into the next year. A new beginners' group will start in another few days, and those in the existing group will decide if they are continuing on to become our faith's next round of Remetj and/or Shemsu. Much to be grateful for and to celebrate before the Holy Family of Waset this year!

I pray in the names of the great golden Deities Amun, Mut and Khonsu that you find all the blessings of a wonderful Opet over the next 11 days.

Dua Amun! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu! Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

Procession of Meret
Feast of 17-23 Paopet, Day 5
Processions of Hethert (until III Akhet 3)

We apologize for the loss of the Daily Ma'at mailing list; we are currently experiencing a server-side issue and hope it will be resolved soon.

Today we celebrate a festival of the goddess Meret, "the beloved," Who is Nebthet-Nit. Several years ago, I was asked to explain Who Nebt-het is to Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, the guru of Kashi Ashram, after presenting her with a statue of Nebt-het on her birthday. The following is an excerpt from what I sent her, and I thought you might like to read it.

Nebt-het is the Lady of the House. The House is the sky, the place where the ancestors shine down from as the twinkling stars, to watch everything we do and guide us through our human lives. The House is also the womb, the carrying place of safety, the still silent waters where souls come from the Unseen world to the Seen one. It can be the cemetery, the houses of the dead, where She weeps salt and water (holy offerings) for the safe passage of the blessed dead; or the Beautiful West, the place just beyond death's door from which, as an ancient papyrus tells us, "no man has come to tell us how he fares." She is the mourner, the comforter. The ancient texts call her a crow or a falcon crying out in the sky, or a woman whose hair is mummy wrappings, or the one who is "true before the red" -- living in the barren lands yet able to be trusted; one with death, yet not dead or a murderer.

My Mother does not speak. She whispers in the base of your skull in a voice so vast you think your ears will bleed from containing it. She talks of Time, Her other face as the Goddess Nit, primeval water-mother of creation, Huntress Who fights for the innocent and "whose veil no man has lifted." She talks of history and tradition, Her third face as the Goddess Seshat, Who writes the deeds of mankind on the leaves of the tree of life.

My Mother is the one who walks the edges, holds the borders, defines the lines between this and that, here and there, then and now. I pray to Her not at sunrise, not in the darkness, but at the point of twilight between the two, just as Set's harpoon fells the Uncreated and the red blood of nameless evil stains the sky before Ra-Tem's boat, the bright sun, appears in the east. She is the Lady of Twilight, and on days like today I feel Her great black wings around me and am not afraid to pray:

"I have come to You, Nebt-het,
I have come to You, Night-boat,
I have come to You, True before the Red,
I have come to You, Birth-brick of souls.
Remember me.
It is well with me and with you,
It is peaceful for me and for you,
Within the arms of Our Father,
Within the arms of Tem."

Dua Nebt-het! Dua Nit! Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

Feast of Heru and Set
Feast of 17-23 Paopet, Day 4
Processions of Hethert (until III Akhet 3)

We apologize for the loss of devotions and the Daily Ma'at mailing list these past few days; we are currently experiencing a server-side issue and hope it will be resolved soon.

In the meantime, we are celebrating the festival of 17-23 Paopet, a holiday for the changing of seasons marked at the autumnal equinox; and a special set of celebrations for the goddess Hethert extending through next month. Today we also honor the great gods Heru and Set as opposites Whose strengths complement each other, the great protectors of our nation and people.

May you have a wonderful celebration and may it ready you for our major holy feast, great Opet, coming in a few more days with the new moon!

Feasts of Nit, Wesir and the Eye of Heru
The Great and Little Nine come forth from Nun

As the inundation of antiquity crested, and life returned to the land, people turned their thoughts to the hidden forms behind creation. They contemplated the Nun, primeval waters of the beginning, personified in the form of the Matrix of Creation, Mother Nit. They contemplated the Eye of Heru, first the sun and then the moon, lighting the days and nights that began time. They contemplated Wesir, the Power that is the potential of life itself.

The gods, great and small, rise up from these mighty powers, and create the world we live in, over and over, each and every day.

How beautiful it is to live in the world of Their splendor!

Dua Nit! Dua Wesir! Dua Udjat Heru! Dua Pesdjet a'at! Dua Pesdjet sherit! Nekhtet!

Feast of Aset
Saq-Ra, "at night, with His Shemsu"
Feast of the Half-Month

The Mistress of Magic and Her Father, the almighty Ra, king of gods and men as Amun and Heruakhety, shine forth today at day and night. We celebrate the half-month and with it the half-season. Rearrange your goals, make special offerings, and look for gifts of wisdom in bright places today.

I pray in the name of the healing wings' wind, and the light that warms but does not burn, that you are healed, blessed and protected in the names of these great gods.

Feast of Hapy, son of Heru
Procession of Khnum-Ra
Receiving the White Crown of Heru's Majesty

...and the Daily Devotions finally resume, nekhtet!

We complete four festivals for the sons of Heru, and celebrated a major feast of the goddess Bast over the weekend. On the weekend, we also toured a new potential multi-use church property, and are currently doing everything we can to make its purchase a reality for our faith. Lots of excitement in our House these days, and more news to come!

I pray in the name of the sons of Heru, mighty Netjeri at the feet of Wesir, that you are always in touch with your ancestors and your gods. In Khnum-Ra's name may you find your own powers of creativity, and in the Majesty of great Heru-sa-Aset, may your creativity come to power.

Procession of Hethert
Feast of the Remen-decan

Hethert goes out into the world today. In the United States, She will be particularly venerated as Amenti, the spirit of the Beautiful West where the dead reside, as our country remembers the terrible events of two years past in the city of New York.

In all places, She is the Mistress of Love, Joy, Abundance and Pleasures, a Lady Whose time has come.

Give to the Golden One that you might hear Hear laughter, and feel Her healing caresses. As Her stars wheel past this evening, remember that you are shined upon by happiness Itself, and be content.

Dua Hethert! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
Her Holiness' thoughts on September 11, 2001 were excerpted in part in From the Ashes: A Spiritual Response to the Attack on America. As a spiritual nation, we continue to pray for the souls of strangers, friends, and loved ones who were lost and for the continued support of those they left behind.

Feasts of Menhyt, Aset and Nekhbet

"It is a day for the beginning of festivals..."

This is the way the entry of an ancient calendar begins for today, and it is a reminder that this month sees one of the longer and more important of our national festivals: the feast of Opet, set to begin at New Moon in a week or two.

Between now and that time, we will honor many of the gods and goddesses, particularly those associated with birth, rebirth, life, growth, and renewal: all good concepts to consider at this special time of year.

What are you bringing into the world?

Saq-Yinepu "to inspect the embalming places"
Festival of Gem-Bau-es
Saq-Min
Procession of Hethert
Feast of Wesir

The feast of Gem-bau-es, "Finding its powers," is a holy day for the connections between the dead and the living. Yinepu takes us out to the cemetery, to visit the blessed dead, and there we meet with Hethert as Amenti, the Beautiful West; and Wesir, Nisut of the Unseen Realms. On our way, we carry with us green growing plants, to place on the graves and also to place in our homes, as a gift for Nun, the waters of potential, Who as Min spring up and create the Seen World as We know it.

Celebrate the cycle, the spiral of life, in your lives over these two very special holidays. I pray in the names of these mighty gods that you are given ideas for new projects, and that your existing projects are strengthened and improved through Their counsel.

First Day of the Month
Guarding the Eye of Heru/Jubilation of the Great Nine
Feast of Wadjet

Welcome to the second month of Kemetic New Year! Today we honor the feast of Heru-sa-Aset's victory and kingship, and the celebration of the gods when His kingship is properly defended and installed. Give special offerings for the leaders of our world today, that they might do their jobs with honor, integrity and compassion, and that they might truly be the servants of the people.

We also honor a feast in the name of the goddess Wadjet, Eye of Ra and protectress of the innocent and oppressed. Ask Her for victory in any challenging situation you might find yourself.

I pray in the names of all of these gods and goddesses that you are greatly blessed, protected and receive everything you pray for.

Feast of Khendet

Amun, Mut and Khonsu receive quite a bit of ceremony in the coming weeks, as the Opet Festival nears. Be sure to leave offerings and prayers for the Holy Trinity of Uaset, and your blessings will be beyond compare.

Khendet, a netjeri or servant-spirit of the great goddess Nit, also has special honor today. What can She do for you? It is a good day to request help from the gods and spirits for your needs and challenges.

I pray in the name of the King of the Gods, His Queen and His beautiful son that you enter a new month blessed and joyful; and ask that mighty Khendet watch over your dreams.

Great Feast of Amun (30th)
Feast of Heka (30th)
Day of Heru's Fighting with Set (30th)
Feast of Nekhbet (31st)
Peace between Heru and Set (31st)

Greetings from Tawy House!

We celebrate the festivals of the ancestors together this weekend out in the countryside, and continue to pray for our Asetmeri's complete recovery from surgery this week.

It is a good time, right before we enter another Kemetic month, to review our goals and make plans for the coming time. Now that the year is begun in earnest, we can begin to decide what we will make of it, and with it.

I pray in the names of mighty Heru-sa-Aset and Set that all of your challenges are met and won. In the name of Great Amun, King of the Gods, may you have victory, and in the names of Heka and Nekhbet, power and protection always.

Dua Amun! Dua Heka! Dua Nekhbet! Dua Heru-sa-aset! Dua Set! Nekhtet!
