Feast of Montu and Heru (Day 1)

Two gods victorious in battle are celebrated for the next two days.

Give them offerings toward victory in your own personal struggles and challenges. Make goals and dedicate them to Their service. Honor Them in any way you can think of. I pray in both gods' names that you are successful, happy and sustained in all your work and life.

Feast of Sokar
Opening and Closing the Palace Windows

According to one of our ancient calendars, today is a day when one "should not do any work at all."

I can take a hint, can you?

It's a good time to take a day off from working! Enjoy the day and let's meet back here Monday!

I pray in the name of Sokar that you have a restful and rejuvenating mini-vacation.

Feasts of Ptah and Heka

I have received a great deal of positive feedback on the Serqet Breath Meditation I offered in my devotion yesterday. Dua Serqet for inspiring me in its creation -- may you all enjoy it and use it whenever you feel a need!

Today we celebrate Ptah the Maker and Heka, great of magic in Ra's boat. Honor Them both in your daily shrine and use the inspiration you find from Them in what you do and what you say.

I pray in the name of Ptah that everything you touch be blessed, and in Heka's name that all you speak is truthful, helpful, positive and affirms what you wish to be said. May They both give blessing!

Dua Ptah! Dua Heka! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown!
May your coming be peaceful.

Take a moment today for yourself, really for yourself.

Breathe in ma'at, richly, through your nose, until you can't hold any more.

Let the ma'at in your breath cleanse out your insides as you hold your breath for a moment. Let it loosen up all strife, all hatred, all anger. Let it touch you with its purity and leave behind only itself. Let it dissolve all the connection to your troubles - if you don't want them, why hold to them so tightly?

Open your mouth and force the breath out, removing all isfet, removing all difficulty, removing all that is not love and ma'at from within yourself. See this impurity moving quickly away from you, touching the ma'at in the air around you and disappearing into nothingness. Know that this offering has been accepted by Am-mit, and will trouble you no more.

Do this at any time you feel the need for an inner cleansing. Follow this with a drink of cool, pure water and a heartfelt prayer, and you've made yourself a purification ritual.

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:

Whine less, breathe more;
Talk less, say more;
Hate less, love more;
And all good things are yours."

Feast of 17-23 Paopet (Day 7 -final)

We've reached the end of this month's special festival. I hope that it was a joyous and productive time for you as you plan the goals for the remainder of this season.

Last night about 25 people joined us for the prayer Dua. Before we began, we had the opportunity to give a Kemetic Name to Sensenetheru of Iowa! Nekhtet for her being able to be there with us to receive her name before the nation!

For 40 minutes non-stop each one added prayers to our growing list, and for the next 10 days, all members of Kemetic Orthodoxy will be invited to share these prayers with their gods in their shrines. We already had prayers being answered before goodnights had even been said....so we know this heka works!

A big Dua Netjer! to everyone who took part.

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Feast of 17-23 Paopet (Day 6)

Our Paopet festival continues with a day dedicated to Sobek, god Who takes on the form of the crocodile to defend Ma'at from all enemies.

This evening, we will join in our biweekly Dua service for heka prayers - to pray together for all the children of Netjer, those we know and those we don't know. We will pray in thanksgiving and ask for blessing. We will pray for the sick and the poor, the angry and the hated. We will pray for peace, joy, love, abundance, and unity. We will pray until we can't think of anything else to pray for!

Your prayers are welcome at our prayer dua. If you cannot attend or are a friend of the faith who is just reading these devotions, click on the button below to send me a private prayer - all prayers received today before 9pm Central Daylight Time will be taken to the Dua and added to the group's prayers. We will continue to pray for each of them for ten days to maximize the heka potential. Join us if you can; and if you cannot, join us in spirit by contributing a prayer and/or joining us in prayer at the same time from your own shrine!

Feast of 17-23 Paopet (Day 5)
Feast of Meret

Today we honor Meret, "The Beloved One," a name used for both the goddesses Nit and Nebt-het, as part of the Paopet Festival. May She bring you peace, gentleness and the spirit of perseverance in Her faces of creation and definition, of space and time.

As you sit in your shrine today, take some time to enjoy the silence. Breathe in, breathe out, and listen to the world around you as you sit in this sacred place. Do not judge it; do not even think about it, but just listen. The Beloved may bring you messages you haven't taken the time to hear before. I'd love to hear about them on our boards!

She is beloved of you...and you are loved by Her. May Meret bless you today.

Feast of 17-23 Paopet (Day 4)
Feast of Heru and Set

We continue to honor the Paopet Festival and the beginning of the Distant Goddess' distance. May She return to us at the end of Her cycle!

It's been a busy weekend here; 11 of us spent time at Tawy House this weekend with Kai-Imakhu Inibmutes to learn about the Netjeri spirits. Our guests travelled to the lakefront and a forest primeval as part of their learning to appreciate the spirits of our land and our hearts, and created heka boxes to keep the talismans they acquired in their journey. It was a beautiful and very productive weekend! Out on the West Coast, a number of our Northwest North America Shemsu, Remetj and friends gathered to visit the "Eternal Egypt" museum exhibit and have fun. I'm hoping to have photos to share of both celebrations soon!

On this day of Heru and Set's festival I pray that all conflicts be resolved appropriately, whether they are inside oneself or outside, world conflicts or conflicts of interest. May the Two Brothers bring peace.

Feast of 17-23 Paopet (Day 1)

The Festival of Paopet's special days begins today. Paopet, the alternate name for this month, describes the Opet Festival earlier celebrated; the festival itself, however, honors the Distant Goddess, a form of Hethert-Sekhmet, as She begins Her southward trek away from Kemet and into Nubia - a mythological explanation for the lessening of sunlight hours during this part of our Northern Hemisphere year. At the centerpoint of this festival we mark the Vernal Equinox, a time when the day and night hours have become equal; this year it will also coincide with the Tepy-Semdet or full moon festival.

Have an exceptional weekend. We'll be out at Tawy House learning about the netjeri spirits together, and should come back with much of interest to share.

Feasts of Nit, Wesir and the Eye of Heru

Celebrate today! Nit, the Matrix of Creation; Wesir Lord over Duat; and the splendid, shining Eye of Heru are all in festival. The great pantheons of gods, the "great and little nine," come forth to see Them and are Themselves also in great joy!

Go to your shrine and make a party with your gods. (Isn't it great to belong to a religion where it's okay to be joyful in your holy places?) Enjoy, have fun, and be happy, for Ma'at is among us and all the gods love us!

Feast of Aset
Nighttime Saq of Ra and His Shemsu
Feast of the Half-Month

Halfway through our first season!

Today we honor Aset, the Mistress of Magic, keeper of the power that creates kings and sustains life. During Her festival, we also take time out this evening to celebrate Her Father, Ra, as His Shemsu. I have lighted a lamp in the names of all the children of Kemet, known and unknown, and it will go out with me during Ra's procession, so that everyone can partake of His nighttime blessing on the Unseen World!

May Great Ra, Who is not dead in darkness but only hidden, bring you a blinding flash of insight into some issue in your life today. May He grant you all your wishes and keep your dreams alight.

Opet Festival (Final Day; Saq-Amun)
Feast of Hapi
Procession of Khnum-Ra
Receiving the White Crown of Heru's Majesty

With a ritual appearance of Amun, Opet Festival draws to a close for another year. We give many thanks to Amun, Mut and Khonsu for Their appearances to us during this week and for Their blessings and renewal.

Today we also honor the fourth son of Heru, the Creator as Khnum-Ra, and the Majesty of Heru, great god Whose ka is renewed within the reigning king during Opet. May this ka continue to burn brightly and serve all the people of Kemet whomever they are. I pray in the name of Hethert, guardian of our Kemetic Orthodox year and Who graced us with Her presence in Saq ritual last Wednesday, that joyfulness and love continue to be magnified among Her people at this beautiful time.

Opet Festival
Feast of Imsety

Opet and the Four Sons of Heru continue their festival, as we reach the midpoint of the Kemetic season and come closer to the time when Sekhmet-Hethert, as the Distant Goddess, begins Her southward trek away from us as She carries rage away from the people to keep them safe.

While we see less and less of the sun in this time here, it is important to realize that Netjer has provided us with balance; our members in the Southern Hemisphere are actually enjoying more light and the beginnings of spring. We can know from this that no matter what season we may find ourselves in, at any given point on Geb's body, there is someone who is experiencing its opposite. Both keep the balance, the Ma'at upon which all depends.

Enjoy life in whatever form it presents itself to you, and know that things are always changing, always bringing more blessing or less, depending upon which direction you have opened yourself up to. I pray in the name of Amun most hidden, Mut the great protectress and Khonsu Who saves souls that you keep open the ways to Ma'at and close the way to Isfet.

Opet Festival
Feasts of Duamutef and Qebshenuef

We celebrate four days coincident with Opet this year to honor the four "Sons of Heru," Netjeri (spirits) Who oversee the four jars containing the organs of ancient dead. Along with Them, we honor the dead themselves, who as the Akhu continue to guide and bless our lives.

During this very holy time of renewal, we give thanks to the four Netjeri who protected our Kemetic Akhu, and ask that they watch over all our dead, keeping their burials safe and respected.

Opet Festival
Procession of Hethert and the Remen-decan

Last year at this time, we were contemplating a very different United States than the day before. This year, we have had time to begin the work to ensure it will never be repeated, but this work is far from done. Let us continue to pray for the leadership of our political world, that they make the best decisions and so that we learn to live together in peace in a world less innocent than last year.

As this is also the Opet Celebration, a time of plenty, beauty and renewal, let us not forget the difficulties of every day, and not just September 11. May Netjer open your way toward Ma'at, happiness and joy.

Opet Festival
Pesdjentiu (New Moon Festival)
Feasts of Yinepu, Wesir, Min, and Hethert

The holy days of Opet are upon us. In antiquity, the great city of Waset (Thebes) would be in jubilation as the bringing out of the statues of Amun, Mut and Khonsu on Their sacred boats was done, to take them to the temple of Luxor to witness the recoronation and rejuvenation of the king on the birthday of the kingly ka. Here in Chicago, I spent time with the Triad of Waset under the New Moon last night, reaffirming my vows to serve each of you and rededicating my life to the service of Netjer and all of its Creations. It is difficult to put into words how beautiful the eyes of those Gods were during my prayers - I saw them everywhere I looked and I still do, even today outside the shrine.

May the Eyes of Amun, Mut and Khonsu follow you too, filled with love and wonder. Happy Opet. Praise to Yinepu Who inspects embalming places; Wesir the King; Min and Hethert Who bring the blessings of children and growth. Praise to all the gods in Their festivals. Praise to all of you who worship Them!

Dua Amun! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu! Dua Netjeru nebu! Nekhtet!

Appearance (Saq) of Heru-wer (Day 2)
Procession of Sobek to see His Mother, Nit (Day 2)
Feast of Djehuty (Day 2)
Feast of Weret-Hekau

The Heru-wer, Sobek, and Djehuty festivals continue today, and we add one more: to great Aset in Her Name of Weret-Hekau, "great of magic."

Aset can be a very intimidating Name, but at the same time, She is one of the most loving and helpful of all Names. Don't be afraid to ask Her for help with any problem that you might have - do, however, be aware that She will very likely ask you for something in return. Be ready with an offering and to do whatever She asks of you, even if it's a challenge. The rewards are very, very great!

May She who is great of magic bring magic into your life.

Appearance (Saq) of Heru-wer (Day 1)
Procession of Sobek to see His Mother, Nit (Day 1)
Feast of Djehuty (Day 1)

We celebrate three major gods today just before Opet Festival truly begins. Heru-wer, great raging bull, warrior lion, and soaring falcon, makes an Appearance in your life. Watch for an unexpected victory or windfall. Sobek processes to visit with Nit the Matrix of Creation; protection and the revelation of unseen matters are certain. Djehuty also enjoys a festival today. Honor Him with some intellectual pursuit!

Enjoy the day and make special offering to any or all of these great gods.

I pray in Heru-wer's name that you are granted your fondest wishes. In Sobek's name I ask that you be protected as you pursue relationships with the Unseen World, and may Djehuty bring you all the knowledge you need to enjoy the blessings Heru-wer and Sobek bring over the next day of festivals.

Keep an eye on these boards for some exciting announcements about new projects, and also two new pledge drives for our Kemetic Orthodox children's charity, the Udjat Foundation.

Feast of Khnum

Today we celebrate a feast without lights - a feast for Khnum, form of the Creator Who shaped mankind in the darkness of Zep Tepi. May He continue to create new realities for us as we approach the great festival of Opet, as darkness gathers in the sky as well (as the moon returns to its New state).

I pray to Khnum that His knowing, shaping hands hold you tightly enough to help you become that which you wish to become, but loosely enough that you are able to enjoy the process of Becoming.
