About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

Opet Festival

We have completed the Opet Festival for another year! Take all the special offerings made in your shrines and offer them over the weekend to the Akhu and your spiritual Parent(s), and also share them with yourself in honor of the new season and year!

Here at the Opet shrine I have washed all of the icons in Nile water blessed during our New Year's ceremonies, and now They will return to their usual private shrine. During these two weeks they enjoyed many fine offerings of food and drink, flowers, perfume, milk and other nonperishable items, which will now be shared with the other altars, the temple kitten, or in the case of items like new shrine bowls, used for the general temple services. May the Gods of Waset bless us as They return to Their seats at the end of this beautiful festival.

Dua Amun! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu! Nekhtet!

Opet Festival

As we reach the end of the Opet Festival and my time of contemplating how better to serve all of you, I find myself very excited about coming months. I am looking very much forward to teaching courses and to meeting with all of you more often as we have a physical place to do that in. I am excited about having been invited to three lectures in two months, although regrettably one this week had to be cancelled due to recent events and security concerns. (More information about the coming St. Louis gathering and my appearance at a university interfaith conference on peace and understanding between religions will be forthcoming as I receive more details). I am very excited about a new probation group just underway and a waiting list already gathering for the next.

It is a time of thanksgiving. I give many, many thanks for another year to serve you and for all of the excitement and surprises and blessings I know it will bring. I am confident that while it will indeed be a warrior's year, as was told to us in our new year's oracle, it will be a year of abundance and blessing for those who carry Ma'at. May you always be among them.

Dua Amun! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu! Nekhtet!

Opet Festival

The season change is being felt in earnest here. Our goddess' Eye wanders further away, and the light grows weaker as we enter the slower part of the season of Inundation.

Use this time as the ancient farmers did, to clear your land and ready the resources for planting. The Inundation has begun, but has yet to reach its highest point -- so be ready to run to higher ground if you need to, or to irrigate if you need to bring the lifegiving waters closer to where they are needed. (Even if you aren't a farmer....metaphorically speaking we all have "crops" to tend, so this is good advice no matter what your vocation).

A number of major projects underway with our faith will see fruition in the coming months. I am teaching classes that are open to the public, and Tawy House, our retreat/conference center, will celebrate its grand opening. Major festivals are coming; a new probationers' group has just begun. It is a time of counting blessings and getting ready to create more. Are you as excited as I am?

Nekhtet for such a beautiful little girl! (If you'd like to see her yourself, have a look here. It's wonderful to have such excellent news to report and a safe mother and child and a happy family as well. Celebrate with me as a new child of Netjer comes into the world!

Opet Festival

Today I will be attending a service at a mosque in solidarity with people of many faiths. Please join me in praying for peace, for the wisdom of our spiritual and political leaders, in this troubled time for the United States. For those of you who are not US citizens, please pray for your brothers and sisters in the faith in this country and in any country where the repercussions of last week's events will play out.

As we continue to celebrate the Opet Festival, honor your ancestors, your family and all bonds of love, as Opet is all about love and unity. May the Holy Family of Uaset bring you love and joy.

Opet Festival

The very great festival of Opet continues, as we also honor the "special day of Paopet," the autumnal equinox, when the Eye of Ra (Sekhmet or Tefnut as the "wandering" form of Hethert) is halfway to Nubia in Her flight from Kemet. Use this time to rethink current projects and realign yourself as we reach the time when She will return in splendor to Her seat on Ra's forehead.

We continue to receive many, many prayers related to last week's attacks on the United States and other prayers. However, the e-mail server my office uses is experiencing a problem and has not been able to send mail for three days (though we are receiving mail, so please don't stop sending). If you are expecting email either from me directly or from one of my scribes, please be patient. We hope to be up and running again before the weekend begins in earnest and apologize for any inconveniences.

In addition to leaving up the image of the Opet Shrine for the duration of the festival, here's a thought for the day:

Opet Festival

One of the most beautiful festivals of the Inundation season, and perhaps of our year, opened with the New Moon: the Festival of Opet. Celebrated lavishly at the southern capitol city of Uaset (Thebes), the Opet Festival marks the time when Amun and His entourage from His main temple ("Opet-sut," or "the foremost of places", today called Karnak) travelled across the city to visit the smaller temple of Mut ("southern Opet," today called Luxor Temple). At the Luxor temple, Amun and Mut were united in marriage and Their son Khonsu joined them and all people of the nation in festivity. This was also a special time for Nisuts, as the annual rejuvenation ceremonies and festivals of the kingly ka, the semi-divine authority invested in the institution of Nisuthood, were celebrated during Opet.

Today it is no different. During this major joyous festival of love and reunion, I will be renewing all my vows to Netjer and to Netjer's people. I invite you to come celebrate with me and with all those who worship Netjer, during this very beautiful festival! Tonight we will celebrate together in our Dua, and I hope to see many of you there. In the meantime, the Holy Family has provided a gift in the form of allowing Their photographs to be taken in the special Opet Shrine set up for them this week.

Pesdjentiu (New Moon Festival), Feasts for Heru's Crown, Khnum-Ra and Hapi, son of Heru

As we enter a new cycle of the moon, this one can be used to pray to Djehuty for wisdom, to Khonsu for healing and exorcism of evils, and to Wesir for peace and the safety of the ancestors. We return to work amidst the uncertainty of the time here in the United States; while many tragedies happen daily whose death-tolls or ferocity rival or put last Tuesday's events in perspective, not many natural disasters precipitate a political response. I continue to pray for world leaders that they are able to gain perspective with time and healing and minimize both conflict and collateral damage as justice is carried out on behalf of those victimized by terrorism anywhere.

Use today to gain your own perspective. Most of you living in the United States have been living under a cloud of media replay and armchair-politicking that in some cases is overdone. While we must not be ignorant of coming events and in fact as citizens should make our opinions known to those who will do "the people's will," at the same time we must give those people room to do their jobs and return to the doing of our own -- with that much more consciousness of just how connected we all are. Continue to pray, do service and reach out to those who are hurting at this time, and at any time Isfet manages to sneak in a late hit.

Dua Heru! Dua Khnum-Ra! Dua Hapi-sa-Heru! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
We ask for your continued prayers and thoughts for the following persons, their families and loved ones involved in Tuesday's attacks and subsequent fallout:
1. (Name withheld), friend of Shemsu Nesiwepwawet, killed aboard United Airlines 175
2. (Name withheld), friend of Shemsu Nesiwepwawet, injured in the World Trade Center, now in stable condition (Nekhtet!)

5. Several family friends of Shemsu Neferuhethert, missing or killed in the World Trade Center

10. Corey Miller, friend of Shemsu Duatsekhmet, missing in New York
11. Shemsu Nebnetjeruiti, who works in the airline industry
12. Shemsu Raemnisut, a military policeman in Washington DC
13. For the workers of Ansett Airlines in Australia, which collapsed financially due to related events
14. For Ken Lordi, father of Imakhu Inibmutes, hospitalized after helping coworkers and others out of a World Trade Center building
15. For Muslims everywhere experiencing hatred or attacks due to the senseless actions of terrorists claiming to be Muslim

Today is the ritual appearance of Bast as Lady-of-Two-Lands, the Lady Who Guards the ancestors sleeping in their cemetery outside modern-day Cairo known as Saqqara.

Today, She comes also to guard those who sleep under mountains of ashes and steel and stone, in places not so far away, in cemeteries created by despicable acts of violence.

I pray to the Eye of Ra, swift of foot, that She enable all gods to reach Their children, living or dead, today, and bring them peace in this troubled time.

May your coming be peaceful.

This morning an unspeakable horror occurred in the United States. Information is still being gathered, but at this time, I wanted to assure all of you that all Kemetic Orthodox membership, friends and family we have been able to account for are safe, and we are in the process of checking on all those we have not yet heard from.

Please send your prayers forth for those who were harmed or killed in this senseless act of cowardice, in order that Ma'at be restored and those who are responsible are brought to justice.

Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
If you have information on anyone involved in this tragedy, please contact us immediately at the prayer request button below.

UPDATE 4:45pm
While most of the friends and family of our faith have been accounted for in the wake of today's senseless acts of terrorism, I regret to have to say that I have a report from a Shemsu that one of her friends was on one of the planes crashed in New York, and two of her friends on the ground, working in the World Trade Center, were moderately and severely injured, respectively. I cannot release names at this time as not everyone has yet been informed, but wanted very much to ask for prayers for this Child of Netjer and for her friends affected very directly today. May the ka of she who was killed be gently led West, and may those who were injured be healed quickly of all their physical and spiritual injuries.

Feast of the Eye of Heru

The Eye is the victorious symbol, the peaceful offering. Heru's Eye gives victory, protection and peace. A day in Its honor is a blessed day indeed.

Make an offering, an Eye of Heru of your own, today. Let it be a sincere offering, one that gives honor to something (or someOne) you hold dear. May that Eye return the love of the true Eye to you, and give you all blessings. I pray to Heru to turn His gentle Eye toward you as you come to Him.

Feast of Gembaues; Yinepu goes forth to inspect embalming-places

Today the ancestors are honored as well as the Setem priests (called "Sem" in some Egyptology books): the preparers of the deceased for their eternal journey. Yinepu goes forth to bless those who ease the grief of the living and facilitate the passage of the dead.

Many people today serve these functions even if they are not priests. Think of those who have touched your life in time of death, and give thanks for them today. If you are Kemetic Orthodox you may wish to consider sending your well wishes to Kai-Imakhu Nakhtdeshretiu, who serves our faith as Setem, although thankfully so far he has not had to exercise those rituals often.

When remembering the dead, remember also the living who helped the dead and their living families journey through the transition, doing the work of Yinepu, opening the ways as Wepwawet.

Feast of Weret-Hekau (Aset as "great of magic"); second day of: Ritual Appearance (Saq) of Heru-wer; Feast of Djehuty; Procession of Sobek to see His Mother, Nit

Last evening, Heru-wer came forth to see His children and all children of Netjer who had gathered. From all reports it was a moving and very informative evening as our god, the Great Warrior Hawk, prophesied and promised blessings and protection in the new year on many.

It's always fun for me to be able to report on a successful Saq ritual. Many of those I've spoken to in other religions are completely bowled over by this idea of possession, that God should literally come right down, take a seat at our table, and start up a conversation. Why not? Why is it so surprising to believe God actually wants to be around Its children, to touch them and talk to them and reassure them and give them wisdom and peace? What better way to find the love of Netjer than face to face, heart to heart?

Sit down and talk to Netjer today, you might be surprised at the results!

Ritual Appearance (Saq) of Heru-wer; Feast of Djehuty; Procession of Sobek to see His Mother, Nit

A new month brings new festivals! We honor the warriors of the year, Heru-wer and Nit, as They come forward to bless the Inundation with Their powers of strength and stamina, wisdom and endurance. Djehuty brings wisdom, and even Sobek partakes in this interchange by seeking His Mother's blessing.

Look around you today and try to find the blessings you don't normally notice.

When you find them...offer thanks: both to Netjer in shrine, and outside of it, by doing something to express your gratitude. Whether that's a random act of kindness, a letter or speech or gift to a special someone, or some other form of expression, is up to you. But don't let another day go by without seeking -- and finding -- your overlooked blessings.

I look forward to seeing many of you in this evening's Dua ceremony, where we will honor these ceremonies as well as welcoming all our recent graduates of probation** in their very first full ritual meeting. Welcome (and nekhtet!) for them!

Dua Heru-wer! Dua Djehuty! Dua Sobek! Dua Nit! Nekhtet!

Offerings to Amun, Mut and Khonsu of Isheru

The Holy Family of Waset (Thebes) is honored today in our shrines: Amun, King of the Gods; His Wife the Wearer of Dual Crowns; and Their Son, the Wanderer, breaker of curses and dodger of demons.

I pray in the names of this Holy Family that you be blessed, protected and honored, today and always. May They guard you, keep you safe from head to toe, in the seen and the unseen worlds. May Mut fight for your life against illness in this, Her Name of Sekhmet-Mut-Bast. May Khonsu bring you fruitful dreams and drive away all sicknesses derived of Isfet. May Amun grant you victory, peace and a long life.

Give a special offering to the Golden Ones of Waset today, and count your blessings.
