About
The daily devotions are written by Her Holiness the Nisut (AUS) and include prayers and special practices for the faithful, corresponding to the Kemetic Orthodox calendar.

From 1994-1999, the daily devotions had been available exclusively to followers of the House of Netjer. We share them now with the general public so that all may learn from these enlightening and thought-provoking missives.

BIRTHDAY OF WESIR (First Day Upon the Year)
Feast of the Dressing, Day 2
Feast of the Seat of the First Time, Day 2

We celebrate the birth of kingship today, the institution embodied in the crook (the staff of a shepherd, a sign of mercy and gentle but guiding love) and the flail (a fly-whisk made into a weapon, the staff of one who drives off evil). Great Wesir, mighty Nisut of the Unseen World, father of men, is celebrated today as the first son of Earth and Sky.

I pray in the name of the Greatly Green One that He keeps you safe and healthy in this coming year, and grants you some of His gift of growing...the gift of making whatever you do bear healthy fruit.

Be blessed in the name of Wesir and grow strong and tall.

Dua Wesir! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
Please visit the website of one of Wesir's daughters and devotees on His birthday. What she says here, I certainly could not say any better, and her gift for His special day is quite beautiful. Dua-Netjer for sharing this with us, Djedet!

House of Ra, House of Heru, House of Wesir (Last Day of the Kemetic Month)
Feast of Lights for Khnum (Last Day of the Year)
Feast of the Dressing, Day 1
Feast of the Seat of the First Time, Day 1

The end of the year is upon us, and we enter the Time that is not time, the turning of the Days Upon the Year. Celebrate with me in all the ways you can think as we approach the renewal of our world, our lives and our souls at the Opening of the Year six days hence.

Yesterday, our Martha in Brazil became Sekhmetwadjyt, at a Shemsu Naming ceremony attended by a dozen or so folks in the afternoon Dua session. Nekhtet, Wadjyt! May your Mother bless you richly in this coming year.

I will be doing special prayers every day of the coming holidays for everyone who requests them. Please send them in and I will make sure to take them with me to New Year's celebrations.

Be well and find much blessing in this time when we light the day and night for the Creator to find His way to creation.

Dua Heru! Dua Ra! Dua Wesir! Dua Khnum! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
Members of the House of Netjer and Daily Ma'at mailing lists will receive private devotions on how to celebrate the holy days coming up. If you are not a member of the faith or our open mailing list, consider honoring each of the gods celebrating Their birthdays this week, and enjoy!

Pesdjentiu (New Moon Festival)
Holiday of the Temple of Ptah-Sokar

More creation is honored, as the Sacred Eye begins its healing in the new moon, and Ptah-Sokar, creator in silence, is celebrated.

It's been a creative day around here, so creative in fact I didn't get a chance to update the devotion until now! We had three Parent Divinations, a Shemsu Naming and the birth of a new member of the faith (welcome little Alex!). So...three spiritual birthdays, a naming and a physical birth.

It doesn't get better than this. But wait: yes it does! (New year is coming!)

Can you feel the excitement?

Dua Ptah-Sokar! Nekhtet!

Feast of Min

Today we honor the creative power, the great god Min. Min, Who is associated both with Amun, King-of-the-Gods, and Heru-sa-Aset, King of Kemet, is a powerful god invoked for all protection, creation, fertility and sustainability. May He bless you very richly in these final days of the year's end, as we invite the Creators to come nearer to us and create life anew.

I offer lettuce to great Min in all your names, and keep you close to my hearts.

In the midst of a very busy world, it is important to take time for yourself; for rest, for enjoyment and for talking with your god(s).

I pray that you are able to find that today, and that whatever messages you receive during your quiet time are powerful and very enlightening.

Rest, rejuvenate and reunite with the Divine, and find blessing.

"The Gods Sail"

Everyone is packing and heading off, along with the gods and goddesses, to make celebration for the great holidays upon us. Some of our visitors are already in town; others are leaving within the next few hours. It's very busy, but very exciting.

For those who will be here, I can't wait to see you! For those who can't come, we'll be sending out information from the site as we're there, thanks to our having computer access this year, and I can't wait to talk to you and share everything we're doing with you as well as hear about our regional and personal celebrations going on at the same time.

Wherever you are during this very special time, I hope that you have nothing but joy and excitement! I pray in the names of all gods and goddesses for safe travel, happy celebrations and an excellent close to a very successful year as we open another.

"The Gods are Established in front of Ra's Crew"

All of the icons of the gods are being gathered to be taken to the temples for Their holy festivals at Kemetic New Year. The holiday honors the gathering of the real gods, Whose spirits bless our icons, as They, too, gear up for the big renewal just a little over a week away.

Even here in our shrines, we are cleaning, packing and getting ready for the Big Event.

Are you ready?

I pray in the names of all gods that you have an excellent weekend as we round out the Kemetic year.

Two days with no special practices. Enjoy them -- the holidays are about to descend!

I will be spending some time over these two days performing prayers and heka on behalf of the nation; to strengthen and prepare us for the Days Upon the Year, when anything can happen and often does. Join me in prayers for a safe, smooth, happy transition from the end of our year into a new one. May everyone we love be blessed and joyful at this holy time.

May Ma'at bring Her balance to us fully and may we feel the beauty of the change of the year as the First Time comes once again.

Today we clean out all the shrines and wash the icons, in preparation for New Year. It's going to be a sloppy day here, as I have even more icons than we did last year to take care of -- nekhtet for cleanliness as we prepare for the days of purification starting in a little over a week.

"The Eye of Heru Returns Complete"
Procession of Mut (Day 1)

I liked that devotion so much Thursday that I decided to leave it up another day! Dua-Netjer enten for all the wonderful letters about it. It seems that the message I was asked to convey was well received, and well heard.

Hopefully you're enjoying the new (and old) Wehemu letters section, and getting ready for the high holy days coming up very, very quickly.

Today we take time out to honor the Eye of Heru, great one of power and strength, and also the goddess Mut in Her last major procession before all the gods depart for the temples and ceremonies of Kemetic New Year. May the Eye, and the Mother, find you happy and healthy this weekend. Have a good time. Enjoy yourselves!

"Pour ritual water, for those in the next world."

We honor our ancestors at the close of the year, those people upon whose shoulders and arms we were raised into the world we live in.

Pour libations to your Akhu, known and unknown, over the next few days as we prepare for the ending of the year. They will remain constant as the year unravels, and help to keep the continuity intact for the return of the year at the end of the Five Days Upon the Year. This is our annual cycle, and this is its blessing and promise.

I pray in the names of all my own Akhu for your own Akhu. May each of them, and us, be blessed.

Feast of the Half-Month
Feast of Heru the Uniter
Saq-Ra to propitiate Nun

Ra goes from visiting the ancestors to give offerings to His own Father, the Nun, the waters from whence all creation arise. Heru Mau, the Uniter, brings together all the children of the gods and goddesses in preparation for a great feast, and we enter the last half-month of the Kemetic Year.

I pray before Ra, Heru, and all the gods and goddesses that each of you is blessed with an unexpected bounty this week, whether that be in something tangible like finances or intangible, like joy. May it wash over you like the Nun washes over Ra in His offerings, and may you be very happy therein.

Defending Heru-sa-Aset
Tepy-Semdet (Full Moon Festival)

We say goodbye to Hethert's year with its last full moon. The restored Eye of Heru trumpets His triumph, and everything starts to return to its zep tepi, its original state of purity and newness.

Is there anything better than this?

At this time of year I spend even more time in prayer and contemplation than usual. Pray with me, for the turning of the year to bring all blessings, to blow away all challenges or negavitity as the wind of Shu and the dew of Tefnut cleanses the bodies of Geb and Nut, Their children. May all find happiness and great success in this renewing world, and peace and prosperity be granted as the best New Year's gift of all.

Defending Heru-sa-Aset

The Wehemu are back.

I could leave my devotion with that, as that'll give you things to read and think about for weeks, but I'll probably add that it couldn't have happened on a better day, when we're honoring Heru-sa-Aset, the model of the kingship I try to uphold for all of you.

Enjoy. Looking forward to lots of conversation.

Beautiful Reunion, Day 11

Meditate in the Festival Shrine for Heru and Hethert's Reunion!

I'm just filled with excitement today. Unfortunately I can't share everything that is making me so excited because some of it hasn't happened yet, but I can give you a taste.

On Friday, I'll be going with Kai-Imakhu Ini to scope out a potential new property for Tawy House, one that is big enough we'll be able to build our formal state temple there, too.

Yes, I said temple. (We're seven years ahead of my mental schedule on having a formal building just for the state temple, folks...)

Something very important to the heart of the existing temple community will also reappear on the Kemet.org website in the next day or two, as well.

More news on both of those events when it's available. I think you will be as pleased about it as I am. Today I'm giving offerings to the Akhu, Who are getting ready for a wedding reception visit with Heru-wer and Hethert, and trying to contain my excitement.

Who says it gets any better than this?

Dua Hethert! Dua Heru-wer! Nekhtet!

Back from Tawy House finally. What a weekend! What a holiday celebration we had! Each of you was remembered as the boats were laid into their pools before Aset's altar, and She blessed each one.

I am so excited about the end of the year and the coming of Year 11 in just a few weeks. We'll be seeing some of you at the celebrations, and others we'll be celebrating with in spirit as we gather in places other than Chicago to ring in Kemetic New Year, such as an international gathering shaping up for Berlin, Germany. Join with us in praying for an excellent set of celebrations and a wonderful new year with many blessings for everyone.

May the Holy Couple whose marriage brings so much love and joy bring those things into your life.

Heqat is honored today among the marriage celebrations. She is a great goddess of protection, particularly for those who are expecting children and for young mothers and their babies.

Beautiful Reunion, Day 5
Aset Webenut ("Aset Luminous, the Procession of Aset, Mother of God"), Day 2

Meditate in the Festival Shrine for Heru and Hethert's Reunion!

As we continue to celebrate the holy days of the Golden Ones' anniversary and the feast of lights for Aset, I have been hearing the most wonderful stories from my people.

They have found candles burning where none had been lit.

They are finding hawk feathers in their shrines.

The voices of the gods are speaking to their hearts while they are celebrating in their shrines, and it is a wonderful thing to hear about.

Keep the stories coming, and keep rejoicing. The gods are with you, and not just on the holidays!

Beautiful Reunion, Day 4
Aset Webenut ("Aset Luminous, the Procession of Aset, Mother of God"), Day 1

Meditate in the Festival Shrine for Heru and Hethert's Reunion!

Kemetic Word of the Day will resume in the future.

Through tonight and tomorrow, we celebrate a very holy festival in our faith, one that did not have major importance when it first started, but eventually became a national festival. On this night and the next, and over this coming weekend at Tawy House, we honor the great goddess Aset, known to some as Isis, in a festival leading up to the blessed Kemetic New Year in about one month's time.

After darkness has come, find a quiet place and light a candle or a lamp in Her name. If you can, make a small boat out of paper or papyrus, and write on it a prayer of thanksgiving and love, asking for any requests you have of the goddess for this coming year. Again, if you can, take this boat, placing a small tea light candle in it, and put it in a running body of water like a river or lake or the ocean, and let it sail off to carry your words to Her domain. In this day and age, Kemetic Orthodox celebrate this very special feast of lights with everything from origami boats in bathtubs to the elaborate processions and festival offerings we presented last year as shown here.

Give light and love to the Power behind the Throne, and find it returned to you in great measure. May She bless you on this day and all days with all of Her majesty and might and the wind of life in Her mighty wings.

Dua Hethert! Dua Heru-wer! Dua Aset! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
"Where there is great love, there are always wishes."
Willa Cather

Kemetic Word of the Day 23
nedjem (1k image)
Nodjem (Bener)

Pronounced: noh-DJEM (ben-AIR)

Meanings for Nodjem:
1. sweet in smell or flavor
2. pleasant or pleasing
3. well, healthy

Meanings for Bener:
1. sweet or pleasant-tasting
2. kindly or loving
3. sweetness

One word, written with the hieroglyph of a carob or date pod, can be pronounced two ways. The meanings, however, stay the same.

Sweet is the world tasted in the mouth of the one you kiss.

Sweetness is what you feel when someone is kind to you, when you feel love.

Sweet is the heart when Ma'at is pleased, when lies and wrongoing have ended and only kindness and love, health and pleasant times remain.

Sweet is the holy time of Hethert and Heru-wer's marriage, when the whole land rejoices in the power of love to heal and bring pleasure to all.

May you taste of its sweetness, and eat of its brightness, every day.

Dua Hethert! Dua Heru-wer! Dua Unnefer! Dua Min! Dua Tasenetnofret! Nekhtet!

Thought for the Day:
"The tears that you spill, the sorrowful, are sweeter than the laughter of snobs and the guffaws of scoffers."
Kahlil Gibran
