Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Adorations to Unnefer Unnefer, the Beautiful One, Wesir Who is the king of the Beautiful West, is our guest of honor in shrines all across the world today. Go to the cemetery, go outside under the trees and in the grass and honor the power of Life in all His guises. I pray in the name of the Greatly Green that you are rejuvenated and know your own growth. Dua Wesir! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Love is one of the most powerful of Netjer's gifts upon the earth. Like a tender plant that grows into a mighty tree, it starts small and grows large. Also like that tree, it cannot grow on rocky or barren soil. Love must begin with the roots, underground -- inside yourself. Then, and only then, can the love grow and extend to those around you, like a tree holding up the sky. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Sekhmet is Angry in Tjemehu-Land In the western desert, Sekhmet rages. Transformed in the New Kingdom from the goddess of appropriate action into a goddess of righteous war, Sekhmet was carried into the war zone, to rally the troops of Ramesside kings against the desert-dwelling Libyan tribes of the Tjemehu, to carry the war through to its bloody conclusion. Might does not always make right, and divine vengeance does not always equal man's vengeance upon a battlefield. Before assigning divine will or Providence to the victory or defeat of either side in a war, consider the real lesson of Sekhmet: appropriate action. Maybe Sekhmet rages in an eastern desert, too. Dua Sekhmet! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Take a moment out of your busy day to listen to the music of the world around you. It might not be tonal, or coming from an instrument, but the hum and throb of machinery, the blowing breeze, or trees shaking their leaves and branches. The music of your life might come from water pipes, electric fans, or a radio or television playing in the background. Even the voices of children playing in the distance are a form of music. I give thanks to Hethert, She Who gave us music, and seek to find the melody in all my life. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Feast of Set, Lord of the Oasis In a time when we watch uncomfortable conflicts resolve themselves in a desert, it is easy to contemplate Set, bringer of storms, Lord of all necessary chaos and destruction, the god everybody seems to love to hate. Today we celebrate a festival of this god not as a stormbringer, but as a lifegiver, Lord within the oasis, the waterfilled, green lush life-giving land in the outer world, Who gives oracles and solves problems. How does one reconcile these two images of the God of Confusion? Perhaps it is time to acknowledge that our gods are not, nor have they ever been, one-sided, any more than Their children are. May Set, Lord of the Oasis, bring you the drink of water in a hostile land that is exactly what you need when you need it. Dua Set! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Ra came and greeted His family yesterday, and many people were moved. It is always a blessing when the gods are so accessible, so near, so willing to share Their love and wisdom with the people. Afterwards, we went outside into the sunlight to give thanks. Would that all days could be this simple yet so profound. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Ra sent us a beautiful gift on the eve before we celebrate Him in Dua ritual. We received both e-mail and postal mail from His son, Raemnisut, currently somewhere on the Iraq-Kuwait border. He is out of harm's way for the moment and wanted to take time to express his love to everyone at home and ask us to pray for him and for everyone who is with him, both in his camp and on the front. Dua Ra for letting us know one of our several people in this conflict is safe! May we be able to contact others and relay more good news in the days to come, and may we continue to pray that all the soldiers under Ra's light, on all sides, come home safe and the conflict ends soon. Dua Ra! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! It is a new day, Zep Tepi made fresh once again. The pain of yesterday is now a memory. The promise of tomorrow is not known. Today is all there is. I pray in the name of Seshat, Who inscribes the leaves of the sacred tree with each day's events, that your daily leaf is filled with nothing but good things. Dua Netjer! Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Ever have one of those days when you work so hard, you know you've forgotten something and you can't figure out what it is? It seems I am having one, since this didn't go out at the time it was supposed to! I've been offline most of the day, doing a lot of praying for our various friends and family in Iraq, and for the entire situation the world is finding itself in. I'm sorry that I wasn't here to share that thought with you earlier, but know that if you don't see me here, I'm probably in the shrine doing something else on your behalves.... Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Festival of Ra We continue our celebration of the sun, just as many other peoples of the world do at this time in the form of the Spring (or Vernal) Equinox. May Ra continue to shine His holy light, and may we continue to soak up His blessings, like growing plants. I pray in the name of the very bright one, Who is in the Aten, Who is Khepera at His rising and Temu at His setting, that you find nourishment and rejuvenation in His brightness. Dua Ra! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Saq-Ra Great, bright, shining Ra, father of all the gods, dazzles us with His presence today. Spend some time under His sun and learn what you will from the Lord of Light. May His Light shine, as it has always shone, upon all men -- and may all men realize their blessing in this. May He also shine upon Kai-Imakhu Antybast and Kai-Imakhu Inibmutes, our chief priest and his wife my chief scribe, who celebrate four years in marriage today. Dua Ra! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Last night, just as we were preparing to meet with the great lord Set in Saq ritual, we received the news that war has begun in Iraq. After some discussion, we chose to go ahead with the ritual, and our people met with Set briefly and received His blessing and wisdom. As far as commenting about the war, Set urged that we "pray for the warriors, even if we cannot support the war" and reminded us that all warriors are holy to Him, no matter which ruler or deity they claim to fight for. We asked Him to protect the warriors from several nations who are the members and family of our Kemetic Orthodox nation, whichever side they find themselves upon in a war they did not choose but must fight. May peace and wisdom prevail; may all the children of Netjer no matter where they are be protected and comforted. Please join me and all people in praying for these things to all gods. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Saq-Set The Red Lord makes His appearance today, at sunrise. Red in the sky means the blood of the Uncreated laid out before Ra's boat, in order that the day might commence and Zep Tepi might come anew. Set, wind lord, lightning and storm, foreigner and outcast, beckons. What shall He take out of your way today? What shall He destroy in order that Wesir might work His growing magic on the bare earth left behind? How can He aid you in your life? I pray that mighty Set show you His strength and His stamina, and leave behind only that which you need. Tonight, when we honor Him, I will ask Him to do this for each of us. Dua Set! Nekhtet!

Tepy-Semdet (Full Moon Festival) Full moon brings with it the half month, and the appearance of Khepera, the sun at sunrise, the visible symbol of Zep Tepi writ large on the belly of Hethert-Nut. As He becomes, so we become. As we become, so He transforms: Khepera to Ra, Ra to Temu, Temu to Wesir, Wesir to Khepera, and Amun, Sokar, Ptah -- all between. All His transformations are our transformations, the times and keepers of our lives and our destinies, riding the bright boat toward the house of the morning, bright red Khepera rising in the east beyond the still form of the Defeated One under Set's spear and Aset's knives. Hail bright Khepera, eye of day. May we rise and shine with You. Dua Khepera! Nekhtet!

Festival of the Half-Month The year turns today, both on the half-month and the festival of renewal that recalls Wep Ronpet, the "Opening of the Year." It's a great day to rearrange your shrine, renew your vows, and generally re-establish everything you started at the beginning of our Kemetic year in secular August. Enjoy the day, as a celebration and a meditation. Take care what you start, and what you finish. Be aware of the power this day can hold, and join me in praying that tomorrow brings only good results from what is manifested today, from our own personal decisions to the big ones being made by world leaders. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Conducting Wesir in His Ship to Abdju Since we're having some connectivity problems out at Tawy House this weekend due to phone work in the area, I'm sending out both devotions for Saturday and Sunday at once. A very special thanks to W'ab priest Ma'ainakhtsen who helped me with some technical problems when I finally did get signed on! Nekhtet! You'll all be very excited to know that we're having a very productive Imakhu retreat. In fact, just last night, a new Imakhu priest of Kemetic Orthodoxy was ordained! Imyt-set'a Neferuhethert will now be known as Imakhu Neferuhethert, Rev. Barbara Richter for legal purposes. A very big Nekhtet for her service to her spiritual Mother, Hethert-Sekhmet, and to the people of our faith, both leading up to and continuing from this moment! When we get home Sunday evening, I'll share more information on this as well as information on New Year 2004, the Qenbet (intrafaith ministerial advisory board), the Imhotep Seminary's 2004 schedule and some changes at Tawy House. Today, we pray in Wesir's name for the continued growth and development of our faith and our family of faith. Dua Wesir! Nekhtet!

Birthday of Heru-sa-Aset Great Speckled Hawk of Heaven, protector of the innocent, justice maker in the court of kings, Heru the son of Aset and Wesir comes into the world today. Celebrate! Ask His assistance in any challenge you face or goal you want to reach. Feel His powerful strength, courage and persistence flow into you as His birthday gift. Join in jubilation as righteousness is born. I pray in the name of holy Heru, son of Aset, that His birth brings you great promise. Dua Heru-sa-Aset! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! When you look around you, and see how others are different from you, how does that make you feel? Do you feel inadequate and insist on comparing yourself, usually unfavorably, with whomever you're with? Do you have the opposite reaction, and find others unfavorable, inadequate, uncomfortable, impossible, or otherwise "less" in relation to you? Can you separate people from their differences from you or are they entirely defined by those differences? (Alternatively, can you separate people from their similarities to you?) Why are we all different? Why do we all have things in common? How do we find a balance between diversity and unity? The answers to these questions shape the future of our world. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Our people shared several hundred prayers yesterday, and now the entire nation will join us in praying for them over the next ten days. Be prepared to witness Netjer's power in the collective praying, asking and thanksgiving of Their children! Prayer is like water. It is something that we cannot live without but often take for granted. Like water, its actions are not always immediately apparent -- it doesn't storm or flood all the time -- but the steady, continual action of water shapes our earth. If you don't believe me, look at the Grand Canyon, or the Nile River Valley sometime. Both were created by years and years of ordinary, patient but steadfast, supposedly powerless water. May you quench your thirst for Netjer with the water of prayer. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! It is a day for prayer. Every day is a day for prayer, but today is a special one within Kemetic Orthodoxy. This afternoon, beginning at 3pm Chicago time, I will be meeting online with our membership to perform a special set of prayers along with heka for their resolutions. This sort of massive group prayer session has proven very effective in the past, with most of the prayers we work on being answered in some fashion within a day or so of the ceremony, and many even sooner. If you would like to have something added to our group Heka Prayers today, we will be happy to add it -- just click on the prayers button below. If we receive your prayer after the ceremony, I will add it to my personal prayer sessions made every sunrise and midnight on behalf of Netjer's people. Join us, and find out the power of prayer. Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Peace, like many other things in our world, requires effort. It does not come about on its own but rather is maintained through the work of those who wish to enjoy its benefits. What are you doing in your life, and in your world, to bring peace? Dua Netjer! Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! Saq-Min At the end of the season of putting down the seeds, we greet Min, great God with His arm and his sex extended. Great Min, Wesir in the daytime, Who makes the crops rise from the ground green and fertile, who makes the bread rise in the oven and the child rise in the womb. Min Who is Heru, sustaining and creating the land in a never-ending cycle of rising, ever rising. May Min bring you all the creative and physical fertility you desire and require. If you are seeking to conceive, today is a good day to pray and work toward that possibility. If you are pregnant, it is a good day to bless your unborn child, or the unborn child of your partner if you have fathered a child. If you are a farmer, get outside and bless those fields today; if you are someone who creates anything at all, offer lettuce and white milk and all things beautiful and fertile to the Great God Min. Dua Min! Nekhtet!

Bless all the children of Netjer, known and unknown! I've given a piece of advice to a few people in my life this week too many times, not to take the opportunity to send it out to more. (I've also had to learn to take this advice myself...so it's not just a canned sentiment.) There comes a time in one's life where you need to stop wasting anger on past mistakes and turn that energy into momentum for new pursuits. This is not to say that there's no reason to have anger or regrets over past issues, or that the past should ever be forgotten. Quite the contrary -- the reason that people have anger and regret is precisely because they have come to a new place where they realize that something they did or said or thought wasn't the right thing. However, dwelling in the place of anger, dwelling on the regrets, if it freezes you into a place where you are either afraid or unwilling to do anything new, is not something you want to do. Release your anger. Turn it into forgiveness -- which comes not from forgetting the past, but acknowledging it and realizing it's time to move on from it -- and step boldly back into your own life and out of a pattern of blame, shame and guilt. Use the force of your anger not to tear yourself down, but to begin lifting yourself up, where you belong. Dua Netjer! Nekhtet!

Amun's Festival of Ra Entering the Sky, Day 3 We light lights today, in the lesser Burning Festival, honoring the return of the light begun last month and culminating this month. We light a light for Ra and His Eye, the protectress of the lands Who is returning and bringing Her joy back to us. We light a light in honor of the Eye of Heru which is lost at this time, the Pesdjentiu or new moon festival, in preparation for tepy-abed or the opening of the first crescent. We complete Amun's festival of Ra entering Nut, and thus make a full circle at the beginning of a new week and a new month. Light a lamp or candle in your shrine today and honor your ancestors and gods. I will pray for each of you that this month is blessed with only good things and all the best dreams and wishes.
